Interesting glow plug controller card failure.

So rather than find the actual problem in the system you would rather redesign it. You'll still have the underlying problem. Probably a bad ground somewhere and easy to fix. Go ahead and throw random parts at it though. Have fun.

Interesting glow plug controller card failure.

The glow plug controller supplys ground to the glow plug solenoid. If you think about it; what would cause that trace to get hot? I would suspect a problem elsewhere as well as the card. Such as corroded grounds, a short in the wiring, glow plug solenoid problem. Would be a shame to replace the...

    My resistor can't be bad!?

Bry, have you replaced the battery in your voltmeter recently? Measuring resistance requires a meter with a battery in good condition. Where as, a somewhat weak battery and the meter can still read voltages correctly but resistance values will be wonky. Cucvrus on here has dozens of resistors...

    Lovely oil leak

That is why i do all my own work. Aside from having tires put on the rims. Yes, i bring the rims to the tire shop without the truck. Had a tire shop break a front stud. You have to pull the whole hub to fix them. Glad you found out what it was. Now take that thing for a spin!

    Lovely oil leak

Go buy a can of Foamy Engine Bright.. or whatever it is called. Hook a hose up to the spigot on the base of your water heater. Spray the engine down with the cleaner. Let it soak. Rinse with warm water.. also helps your water heater. Then drink a beer. Fire that pig up and lay underneath it...

    Lovely oil leak

As have many millions of GM starters and worked just fine. My solution still stands. A lot of folks buy these rigs and park them. Expect them to start months later. My Dad did that with Desotos and Fords. They will rot treated that way. You have to drive them. That was their purpose. WAAM in...

    Lift kit for M1009

Swapped out my 10 bolts as well. Used the 12 bolt rear and 44 front from my 76 k5. Built with 3.73s Yukon axles and lockers. These rigs are fun to build. Main reason i bought an m1009, which pisses the local ss guys off, was because it is a rust free, nearly new, 86 K5 Blazer. Un-bastardized so...

Front cover oil seal needs replacement?

What this guy said. You will need a special tool. Harmonic balancer removal/install tool. You can pull steering wheels with this tool as well. Get the Fluidampr balancer.. don't f around. Do it right. Nobody argues with quality when they see it and it improves resale value along with it's...

    Lovely oil leak

No way. Your starter quit because the battery terminals corroded. Or some other reason. Oil ain't gonna do it. Plenty of Mexican owned Chevys have lived hundreds of thousands of miles leaking oil onto their starters. What you need to do is; drive it. Every day. Take it to work and back. Go get...

    Lift kit for M1009

I am using the ORD 3" lift kit. They specd out a 4" shackle reversal due to my keeping the top on the back. Up front are the Tuff country 3" heavy duty springs due to the 6.2 I live in the least restrictive state in the nation when it comes to firearms and land use. I wheel all summer here in...

    Lift kit for M1009

No. Off Road Design. Here. If you want a cheap lift for show, look elsewhere. If your intent is to improve articulation for wheeling, look at ORD.

    That's a jeep thing..

    Lovely oil leak

Pressure wash it. Carefully of course. Whenever i go after a leak of unknown origin, i spray the engine down with foamy engine bright, let sit for an hour or 3 beers, then pressure wash. Fire it up and inspect. You'll find it for sure. Any pictures?

    Weird Glowplug Resistor Bypass Issue

You said it. Cosmic space magic. Cucv's aren't just GM trucks.. only the TMs contained here can decipher their mystery. Normal automotive principals go out the window. At the beginning of time there was the CUCV and billions of years later GM designed the civilian version.

    Weird Glowplug Resistor Bypass Issue

Then again, consider that millions of civilian Chevrolet and GMC pickups and Blazers had 6.2 diesels. All of them 12 volt. The glow plug card is 12 volt. The glow plugs are 12 volt. The only reason for the resistor is to have 24volts avaliable for the Nato slave plug but still play nice with the...

    Weird Glowplug Resistor Bypass Issue

You know. Mine probably operates differently. I totally converted to 12v. Both batteries in parallel. So my gp cards voltage sensing is gonna be different than just hooking one battery up. Course, plenty of folks here run them like that. I am in the minority.

What have you done to your CUCV today/lately - Part 2

Argh! Don't tell me that! Forget what i paid.. but it was more than $10 at RA. Well.. They are pretty and shiny. You can see the newly soldered glow plug connectors from under there too.

What have you done to your CUCV today/lately - Part 2

True. I reused those washers. The bolts have a special knurling. It locates the starter housing. The housing also has round depressions machined where the washers fit.

What have you done to your CUCV today/lately - Part 2

Replaced my starter bolts with genuine AC Delco bolts. Noticed that the wrong ones were in there when i rebuilt and converted the starter to 12 volts. Wierdly, Rock Auto only sells them in a box of 5. Also soldered up some connections. Beautiful day in the middle of nowhere.

    Weird Glowplug Resistor Bypass Issue

I started mine at 16f this morning. I have the resistor bypassed. After a wait light for 15 seconds, my glow plug solenoid was still engaged according to my volt meter. I turned the key with half throttle and it started right up. Got one after glow out of it about 3 seconds long. This winter i...
