    CUCV Cooling System Upgrade Kit

Yeppers. There is a block off plate passenger side. Below that plate on side of block is the gp inhibit switch. What concerns me is seeing Drock had to remove the gp thermister on the drivers side to install this kit. Looking at other threads I know drock is using the glow plug card. Drock is...

    CUCV Cooling System Upgrade Kit

The gp inhibit switch is located on the passenger rear side of the block. It opens above 125 degrees f to disable the glow plugs. It can be safely jumped with a wire and connectors. You will have glow operation above and below 125. The gp thermister is located on the driver side top of the...

    CUCV Cooling System Upgrade Kit

No. That is the glow plug inhibit switch. The sensor Drock is showing above is the glow plug thermister. It tells the glow plug card what temp the engine block water jacket is and that is the data the card uses to calculate glow plug time.

Installed a Class 3 receiver htich on M1009

The reason I mentioned the semi float 14 is it's lighter unsprung mass than the full floater. Also its very stout 9.5" ring gear. Better ground clearance than full floater. The lunchbox lockers for the semi float 14 are as big as the detroit in a 10 bolt. The c-clip doesn't scare me. Seen broken...

    CUCV Cooling System Upgrade Kit

If anything I would just plug the sensor back into the harness. That thermister was telling your glowplug card whether the engine was cold or hot. The glow plug card now has no way to know so it defaulted to cold. At least if you plug the thermister back in, even though it is not in the water...

What have you done to your CUCV today/lately - Part 2

Glad you posted this. I was wondering what the previous owner of my M1009 had installed. He said it had an "updated" glow plug card. I thought it was the Hillbilly one but could not find a diagnostic description online for those. Went to the website for the GDP-3A and there is the diagnostic led...

Installed a Class 3 receiver htich on M1009

That ole 3B was an ex-airline conveyor belt jeep. Had a cracked head and plugged radiator. Melted a piston on San Jose Soquel rd one night. Found another f-head in Chico and it also turned out to have a cracked head but didnt leak so I ran it that way. If you stayed on the throttle it could...

Installed a Class 3 receiver htich on M1009

Well, there is a 10% grade for 8 miles between the lodge and town. I know it can do it. Just would much rather use my rusty 76 Chevy K5 with the small block 400 since it doesn't even notice the trailer going up hill. I plan to sell the 1976 in the spring and keep the M1009 as my sole vehicle...

What have you done to your CUCV today/lately - Part 2

Used the cateye and blackout wiring for power to an underhood work light and bumper mount utlity lights front and rear. Since I don't foresee myself in a midnight convoy, nor do I need to illuminate the path for a foot soldier guide, I removed the cateyes and blackout light. Using the cat eye...

Leaving an add up when all items are sold

That is trippy. I just sold something in classifieds and wondered the same thing. Chose to delete the threads for the sold items. Then I see this post... Nostradamus must be at work here.

Purchasing M1009, Have a Few Questions

Just search Doghead Relay Mod here on Steel Soldiers. Plenty of info. Thanks for correction on glow plugs.

Purchasing M1009, Have a Few Questions

Again, this only applies if you intend to wheel your truck hard. I wheeled my stocker for several years before I broke the axle. Your mileage may vary.

Purchasing M1009, Have a Few Questions

I ran my 1984 K5 Blazer with 10 bolt axles and 3.08 gears for 3 years. No it isn't bad. Just slow off the line. Towing is painful up hills and you'll be in second gear a lot if the hills are steep. If you plan to wheel the truck hard, the 10 bolt axle shafts and that gov lock are not going to...

Purchasing M1009, Have a Few Questions

Ha ha! Yea, I did not intend my laundry list to sound like doom and gloom. I love these trucks. Own 2 of them now. These Internet forums are great but sometimes it is hard for me to relate the context of my words. I was just telling him what to look for. Not saying "the sky is falling". Yes...

Purchasing M1009, Have a Few Questions

If it is totally stock, only your starter is 24 volt. Everything else runs on 12 volts. Do the Doghead starter relay conversion. The stock starter relay is poor quality and has a history of sticking which can burn up your starter. Go through the glow plug system. There is a relay upgrade for...

    Spartan Locker pros and cons..

I had an ez locker in the front and rear of my 1984 K5. My current 1976 K5 had Spartan Lockers front and rear until I swapped in a Powertrax No-Slip in the rear. The Spartan Locker up front is barely noticeable off-road. Where you will notice is going steeply uphill into a tight turn with good...

Installed a Class 3 receiver htich on M1009

Today Emily made a grocery run off the mountain. She brought back my Curt 13401 class 3 receiver hitch along with the mail. So after work I bolted it on to my 1986 M1009. Was slightly different than a civy Blazer install. 1. The square tube bar that connects the two halves of the "military"...

What have you done to your CUCV today/lately - Part 2

Yea, I was a little ticked off yesterday. I heard the drumming noise of the water drops and could barely contain my rage. I found the leak too. It is on the first of the four core tubes. It has the factory black paint on the ding where the leak is. My guess is it got smacked after testing and...

What have you done to your CUCV today/lately - Part 2

In the old days we used a long handled screw driver to find mysterious knocks. Actually I still do. Get the longest screwdriver you can find, preferably and old Craftsman with the plastic handle with a ball on the end. Phillips or flat doesn't matter. Put the pointy end right up against the...

My new LMTV is blowing water pumps and loosing alternator brackets!

Ahh. I missed that first part. So your water pump leak wasn't even from the shaft; it was fron the gasket due to loose mounting bolts? Dude, I am sorry. You said a "Cat mechanic" replaced the water pump after the housing cracked. You need a new mechanic. There is perhaps an argument for a few...
