    M977 Radiator- Please

That's why I said no "practical" way. He could form copper tubes, fold up fins, and solder up a core 100% from scratch but it's not "practical." ... It's for a volunteer fire department, so they should be able to get something from the government, or maybe they can find one they can...

    M977 Radiator- Please

It's nice of you guys to offer suggestions to use radiators from other vehicles, but obviously you have never seen a HEMTT radiator. There is absolutely no practical way to adapt something else to this application... The HEMTT radiator is huge, and it's welded steel top tank and side pieces...

    M977 Radiator- Please

NOS for $2375? I'd call around for sure, but that isn't bad... especially if it was within range of in-person pickup instead of shipping, I'd jump on it. Jon

    Fuel Bleeding a HEMTT

I agree completely about having a primer pump in the tool box, also that engines without an electric in-tank pump should have had a hand primer pump as standard equipment. The pump is better and (in my opinion) easier than pressurizing the fuel tank. Filling the filters with fuel just saves...

    Fuel Bleeding a HEMTT

It's in TM 9-2320-279-20-1 Section 4-9 For the Fuel-Water Separator: 1 - Open drain valve and drain fuel-water separator. 2 - Remove T-handle, preformed packing, lid, and preformed packing. 3 - Remove filter element. 4 - Install filter element. 5 - Close drain valve. 6 - Pour clean diesel fuel...

Has anybody made or found a 24v tow light?

I use a cheap set of magnetic tow lights from Harbor Freight... I changed out the 12v light bulbs with 24v ones, cut the connector off the end of the wires, and hooked them to a junk trailer light cable. Chunk the magnetic lights on the rear, zip tie the wires to the vehicle(s) and plug it into...

SoCal 2016 Summer Rally Aug, 5-7 Big Bear California San Bernardino Mtns. camping

Yeah, great stuff. Made by Miller Tire Company, I discovered it back when I bought my deuce tires because I was looking for a true preservative / protectant for tires, not something just to shine them up. It smells like latex paint but it's more than that... When it dries it's stretchy like a...

    Fuel Bleeding a HEMTT

I've never had any trouble priming, but I'm also careful to avoid getting air in the system. The procedure for replacing HEMTT fuel filters, if I recall, is to remove the old filters, fill the new ones with fuel, and install them... No bleeding necessary, the engine is capable of passing that...

What have you done to your HEMTT/PLS/MK48 this week

I don't understand where that cooler is located... It appears to be passenger's side in front of the rear axles, but mine has nothing in that area to hide a cooler behind. Did you add a tool box there? I've followed along with this thread but I may have missed or forgotten...

SoCal 2016 Summer Rally Aug, 5-7 Big Bear California San Bernardino Mtns. camping

Perfect. Thanks for the info... I'm definitely going to try to make it, though I might have to work that Friday afternoon so I may have to bug out pretty early. I never know though, my schedule changes often, so I may end up with that day off. I use Miller Tire Paint... That's how you...

Event in Southern CA (Indian Wells, 10/22/2016)

I'd be interested in more information... - Is the display for one day or for the entire weekend? - Is it a stand alone display or part of the general car show mentioned on the website? - Is it free for MVs to attend? I know it's for a good cause, but it is not economically feasible for me to...

SoCal 2016 Summer Rally Aug, 5-7 Big Bear California San Bernardino Mtns. camping

Actually, if I went to my local Michelin truck tire dealer and ordered them brand new, paid disposal fees, taxes, and installation, the cost would be well over $16,000. A set of 8 good used surplus take-offs would be around $4000. Fortunately my truck had a brand new zero-mile set of tires...

SoCal 2016 Summer Rally Aug, 5-7 Big Bear California San Bernardino Mtns. camping

Hmmm, a convoy right past my house will be hard to resist... What is the dirt road like? I've never been that way. I don't do camping anymore, I just don't enjoy 'the outdoors' where there are bugs and where there is not a soft, orthopedic bed and climate control, but I may be up to joining in...

    HEMTT TMs?

Man, Castle Bravo is the King! I don't have that many, but I have all of the M977 series, skipping the A4 and the ones that are only for the M984. Basically I only give a crap about the ones that are for my truck. I do have TM 9-2320-432-10 M985 Operator's Manual... Here's my full list...

    Hemtt Detroit idle adjustment?

Good tip about using the C02 fire extinguisher, thanks... I reread the TM and I guess you're pretty much right on about the idle speed, which is good! I like being wrong when it makes life easier. I still intend to do a full tune up - My radiator is leaking, and since taking it out is such a...

    Axle interlock vs 8X8

I see. Indeed the HEMTT can't do that. But I don't really see why you'd want it to... If you're on a surface where there is a risk of getting stuck, the transfer should probably be in low range as you'd be going relatively slow. Though if you wanted to do it anyway, I think it would be as...

    Axle interlock vs 8X8

That's interesting... So basically the inter-axle diff lock is on the 4th axle instead of the 2nd?

    HEMTT TMs?

I've found all of them, many from Igor's excellent site and a few from elsewhere. I've tried to upload them to the TM section here but the attachments were rejected... I'm not sure if it's something I'm doing wrong or if they're too big or maybe SS's server was having a brain fart that day. Jon

    Axle interlock vs 8X8

Castle Bravo is completely correct in his explanation... I like his analogy of thinking of each pair of HEMTT axles as a separate 4x4 pickup truck. In high range, with the air toggle in neutral, the front pickup truck is in neutral and the rear pickup truck is in 2wd. Flip the toggle to lock...
