It looks like the rod bolts failed, the crank smacked the dangling rod, ripped it out of the piston, and then ejected the rod out the drivers side of the engine block. The piston is at the top of the bore, the rod cap and some small pieces of piston are in the pan. The crank is damaged beyond...
Well, the motor is going back in by itself, the tranny will go in from below. I need to know the approved method for eliminating the manifold flame heater, I have ether start, so I want to get rid of one more thing that potentially leaks fuel, especially on a hot turbo. . .
The dead motor is...
You can't really see it in the pictures, but most of the number 6 piston is in the bottom of the pan. I want to get the rod bolts tested for hardness, anyone have a recommendation as to where to send them?
Ok, dead motor is clear, and a mess is on the shop floor. . .
Doesn't look like today will be the day. . . that winch is a PITA to get a motor out over it. . . especially by yourself
It's an 1988 engine, I took a picture of the data plate. Got a couple of questions, does the PTO have to come off?, or will it come out as it did in the non-winch truck? I've only swapped motors on non winch trucks. . .
Check out the smashed air lines. . .
few more pics
Got up early today, and here are some pics of the donor motor coming out, I'll have someone here to help me move the carcass out, and move my blown motor truck in, hopefully will be able to finish this today! :-P
Unless the beer gets opened and I end up standing around looking at the truck...
Truck was a 109A3, not sure about the mini/marker lights, but if you need more pics let me know, this truck will be stripped to the bones, as it has serious rust everywhere on the body.
Yeah, it was sitting at jimbos* place for a few years, but the motor was test run a few weeks back, and it's good to go as far as a test run is concerned. But the motor is really nice if you brush off the dirt. . . ;-)
