    M1008 Front Driveshaft Trouble

Just jack the right front wheel up as far as it will go and see if the shaft will go in without completing bottoming out. If it does, you are golden. It isn't rocket science with the length. As long as it doesn't bottom out at full stuff and run out of spline engagement at full droop, run it!

    hmmwv takeoffs

I use centramatics on mine (the bigger HMMWV ones) and even though they have tamed my square MT's down quite a bit they still pretty much suck. The tires that is. I'm really ready to downsize to a new set of 35's. The takeoffs would be much better suited for a yard or offroad only rig. I've...

    M1009 front axle lock up

I think most people would give away a 3.08 10 bolt just out of shame...

    hmmwv takeoffs

I got good mileage out of mine considering the age. They have been a balancing nightmare since day one though. Traction in light snow and mud has been marginal. I think their are better tread designs out there. The newer MTR pattern is superior.

    M1009 front axle lock up

Pinion may be wedging itself into the carrier if that was the issue opposed to it trying to come out of the housing. Either way you will see a ton of oil near the yoke. Sounds like catastrophic failure, I would prepare for an axle swap or costly internal repairs.

    AUX guages, questions

You can't T a temp guage in, just to save you some trouble. I think I put my sender on the side of the cylinder head in an empty port and it works fine. I do know my aftermarket water pump also has an open port too. I run a SunPro temp gauge in the diagnostic pod under the dash just to keep it...

    hmmwv takeoffs

I agree, second time around I would avoid the takeoffs especially for any extended pavement time. To answer your question first, I have them on 9.75" wide Ford rims and getting the bead to seat is difficult without a cannon. Even strapping the tires does not work. A good explosion also works...

Is $7000-$8000 too high for super clean M1009?

I don't see a drastic advantage to a CUCV and civy truck. I personally wouldn't pay more than $5k for a K5 knowing that it has 10 bolts underneath it. Wheeler or no wheeler... The other variants are worth slightly more because they have the beef underneath. It's worth only what someone is...

    spin on fuel filter

A quick tip is to thread the line into the pump before tightening the pump down. Makes life a lot easier. I am putting an M1010 6.2 into my Suburban right now and prepping everything. An AC Delco pump off Rockauto was about $25 so not too expensive. Since you already have a lot of the lines...

Cucv fuel filter replacement or not?

Because a diesel system is sensitive to particles down to a few microns in size. I'm not sure about you but clean looking fuel could be full of these even if it looks good. If the engine has an on engine filter its no big deal because they will be caught by that particular filter. On the CUCV...

Cucv fuel filter replacement or not?

I think that you should be comfortable changing your own fuel filter as it may leave you stranded with a bad batch of fuel. Always good experience, do it just for the fun! I will advise to anyone especially on a diesel with only one filter is to NOT fill the filter before installation. You want...

    spin on fuel filter

Pull the feed line to the IP and see if you have fuel coming out while cranking. Sounds like you are not getting any fuel to the injectors. The spin on is a good upgrade but not the cure to your problem. Figure out what the cause is and then tackle the upgrades. Stanadyne has a good FM series...

    CUCV Front Winch Mount

That's exactly what I'm getting at. Any time I've used a winch for recreational use and not moving stuff around, I needed to either hold the truck using the brakes or try and bump a tire over an obstacle while pulling it forward. I agree, my truck has a hard enough time with power steering...

    CUCV Front Winch Mount

Maybe I'm missing something here. We are curious exactly what your setup is. The fact is a hydroboost truck with power steering along with a hydro winch simply will not work at all unless you are not pressing on the brake pedal or having steering inputs while trying to pull cable. There is no...

    CUCV Front Winch Mount

If they aren't powered by the power steering pump, what is providing the hydraulics?

    CUCV Front Winch Mount

I understand that but having the winch work fine without your foot on the brake or trying to turn your wheel up over a rock or rut is a whole other story. Can your setup do this? I've never put one on a K30 but I'm thinking that no matter what pump you use to feed it, the system will be...

    CUCV Front Winch Mount

Maybe Glocklover can comment on this but a hydro winch is going to suck considering you have power steering and hydroboost brakes. The only way that winch is going to pull is that your foot is off the brakes and you aren't trying to steer. Most of the time I'm winching from a stuck situation I...

    cucv 24v alt questions

If you have zero 24v systems other than the starter, it sounds like the only two easy options would be to convert over to 12v or just feed the second battery with a solar charger and call it good.

My 1028 A1 had it's first failure in two years

You won't see any pinion play with that bearing failure because the main tapered bearings are held in the removable support plate. That little guy that got munched is just there for extra support to minimize deflection under load. Good catch! Lucky it didn't do any more damage. You can replace...
