Leaking fuel tank, hard start and stall on m1028

Dont' reinvent the wheel. Get a good quality AC Delco replacement. Thread the fitting on half way first before bolting the pump to the block, it will make life easier. It's not difficult to replace, it's that the location requires some flexibility to do. Once it is done you are good to go for...

    Front end/Rear end Swap

Not that a SF 14 bolt is a huge upgrade but it's better than a 10 bolt by far. The front end you won't gain really anything other than a few extra lug nuts. The gearing will probably help and also let you run a slightly larger tire. I say go for it. It's just some time and money, the swap you...

Should I check anything else before i drop my fuel tank?

I always recommend just starting from scratch. Pull your tank, inspect/replace the sock, replace all your flex lines, change/upgrade the filter, install a new AC Delco pump, and enjoy your many years of reliable service. It's the only way to eliminate the starting and running issues with the old...

Will Slave Cable Start a CUCV Without Batteries?

Why not just pull your batts and install in CUCV B?

Looked at an M1008 this weekend.

If its a clean rig that has been serviced properly and turn key...probably worth that especially if the rust/rot is very low. It all boils down to what you are willing to pay for it. Why not go in at $3300 and worse case meet him half way if he goes for it. Worst he can say is no.

    CUCV M1031 - Generator issue

Go through and check that all of your safety switches work and that the governor is getting power. More than likely one of the control units is junk. Mine worked for awhile and gave up a few months ago. I have a new governor coming in from B4THUNDR.

    High idle solenoid acting up?

I would throw a DVOM or test light on it. If you are getting power and the high idle isn't engaging you know what needs to be done...

Weird scenario - power issue with wide-ratio tranny

I think is more of a gearing selection issue. That transmission is basically a 3 speed for most driving instances. You can only do so much with 3 gears in a manual trans. I agree that a splitter or maybe an NV4500 would do you a lot of good to keep things in the sweet spot. Even with an M1009...

Cracked a TH400 case and support brackets with a NP205

I remember reading that GM no longer used them because it promoted cracking.

    Auto transmission cooler theory

I don't think you can group a TH400 with modern transmissions. Its an apples to orange comparison. The TH400 is a dumb simpson planetary design with only a few inputs to control shifting...period. I'm sure transmission fluid temp is important to a degree but guys, this isn't rocket science. Put...

    Auto transmission cooler theory

I vote for the cheapest way out to be putting one before the radiator to shed as much heat as possible and let the radiator cooler ensure the trans fluid is at operating temp. If you have money to burn, buy a completely independent fan cooled unit with a thermostat and have a temp gauge for...

    Injector pump question

I did one a few years back from a local Stanadyne certified dealer, it was competitive at $450-500. I bought the seal kit and was thinking of doing mine but after 30 years of service and being that it is the heart of the fuel system, I decided to bite the bullet and just installed a reman'd unit.

    New to the CUCV club..

I've used these on my Samurai and they work great. Unfortunately they did not fit over my D60 front hub so I couldn't use them on my M1031. I will have to bore out the center but they do fit 6x5.5 pattern. They will pay for themselves with your first alignment...

Who saw the new TV show Diesel brothers?

A lot of the big shows are nothing more than parts pushers. All the builds incorporate the parts from the sponsors. I understand why but it doesn't present any cool fabrication. The powerblock shows are decent about getting the tech in somewhere. I've found myself watching the Motortrend...

    removing diagnostic wiring harness!

I say rip it out and it opens up a spot for a nice temp gauge down below :) Nothing useful in that harness that can't be found with a voltmeter.

Who saw the new TV show Diesel brothers?

It was fun to watch a new car show on TV but it is a lot of high level stuff dumbed down to the common denominator viewer with some added drama on top. It reminds me of like Duck Dynasty with trucks. Cool to see a twin turbo 4BT :) I'm confused that they went out and "bought" a clean first gen...

M1008 rear axle from long term storage

Yeah...I vote for giving it a quick wipe and run it. Put some gear lube in it and drive it a few miles. Drain it, fill it, send it packin'

Are exhaust stacks illegal on a pickup truck?

All of this can be put to bed if you read your state inspection laws...this is not that difficult. They are going to vary greatly on where you live. I'm sure the biggest ones will be if your state is heavy on emission inspection laws. Most allow for zero modification to the intake or exhaust...

    6.2 Block Heater Question/Questions?

I did mine years ago so I forget which plug, I think it was in the middle of the block. I know alot of people have issues with the Katz. Mine has worked fine since I've owned it. I did clean up the hole with some scotchbrite and I also did torque the fastener outlined in the directions to...
