I would say, buy it. I have a 51 with 4.89 gears and I think it's the best, around town , truck I ever owned. Puts a smile on my face, just looking at it.
As far as the 4bt, over 5 grand, doing it yourself. High dollar engine and high dollar transmission, if done right. Adapters and driveshafts, etc. all add up.
Make sure you get the right type of tubing for a hitch. One type has a weld seam on the inside of tube and your hicth will not fit in it. You have to the type made to " recieve " a hitch. Another words, more money.
That is a good study. I've always used additives in my trucks, this gives me something to think about. I'll have to do some looking to find one the top four additives. Thanks for posting

I had owned a ford powerstroke, with a straight pipe and it would whine, whistle or to some people, make a funny noise. I liked it, but save your old parts, the sound might get old. either way, you guys will have fun working on it, good luck
Sorry to hear you still have troubles, you have certainly paid your dues on this one. I also will be reading along and learning as we go. Good luck!

That is going to be one big project. No way to get it closer to you. Those 100 mile trips are going to add up. Sounds like you have done some restoring before, so take the pictures and good luck. I always like to see a M37 come together.
I've got the ceramic beads in my 11/16 Mich. on the M37. It was a pain to pour them in the valve stem, but I don't use the 37 on the road much, so not sure if they help or not.
I don't like the A1 because of 2 reasons. No tongue jack, you have to lift it off the pintle, which gets real heavy if you mount anything on it. Like spare or cooler, etc. Also the frame is smaller in size. 3 inch frame rail, instead of 4 on the newer ones.
