If you get an 818, just be aware that top speed is 50 MPH, and with any kind of load, you will stuggle to get out of 3rd gear hirange, or about 25 mph. It will pull it however- just slowly. Also, 818's ride like a brick in a tornado. It will beat your kidneys to pieces.

If you drive it home, expect 7-7.5 MPG, unloaded. Bring big earplugs, and a iron butt for the seat. Top speed is 57 MPH, off a cliff with a tailwind. 50 MPH is a better number, I just did 1200 miles in my 814 at 50. You get a longer time to look at stuff. :mrgreen:

The M814 "Long Easy" has been refueled from the 1200 roundtrip to Haspin, and is ready and waiting for the Ga Rally. Hopefully, an M37 will be acquired by then for Mrs EMD to ride/drive the trails on. :mrgreen:

Dunno- I have never seen that type of clamp on the mirror brackets of any 5 ton.

The 814 is so long, that I have to wear two watches, as the ass end is in another time zone. I am looking for the Mk I bike that was issued so you can reach the another end of the bed in a timely fashion :jumpin: :mrgreen:

Got back to Aiken at 0213 Monday morning. Long ride, but I had fun and I am looking forward to next year. Only thing I really hated was that the bathrooms closed at 2130, and opened at 0700. My schedule was not in sync with the bathrooms, so I had to let the water out of some 5 ton tires...

On the rear of the 800 series, the supply(red) and service(blue or yellow) have shut off valves. On the front, they may have the valve, but they also have a check valve to prevent over pressure should the engine on the towed vehicle be running.
