Just placed my order for the week off, so it looks like me and my wife will be there in the M814"Long Easy", and maybe with an M37 in the bed. Now I just have to follow Ferro all the way up there!!!:driver:
For those that just have to have a 10 ton, and have more money then sense, I know of one in the Augusta GA area. Not sure of the model, but it looked to have a winch right behind the cab.
If you have trouble- Try SECO in Augusta Ga. I was just out there, and they have everything from deuces to 10 tons. Real heavy on the 900 series trucks.
Trust me- I did not breathe real well until we were south of DC. Funny, the closer to home I got, the better I felt about the 814. It felt really really great when I shut it off in front of my house
Check your front bearings!!! I am glad I checked mine on my 814 before starting the 715 mile trip home. Also plan on greasing all 32-34 grease points- mine were dry also
Like any used vehicle, you have a punch list of "little things" that you want to take care of. The problem is, an 814 is not "little". Ferro and I found some things, while not trip stoppers, needed to be addressed before I could hit the road again in security.
Things like the Emg stop...
Tanker tows very nice EMPTY behind the 5 ton. I told Ferro that we now have enough fuel capacity to get my 814 and his 818 to Haspin and back, no stops.
I couldn't get over the tires- still had the overspray from the CARC paint, applied 11/04 :jumpin:
Turning corners with the 814 takes a little practice, and even hardened NJ drivers will give you give way to you. The 814 also does well on "circles or roundabouts" everybody clears out of your way.
I have the mark one version of Ferros(Adams) new product- Field repaired mirror Loops...
My 1st EUC was 72 days. Expect crappy fuel/with water in the fuel. My fuel was at least 3 years old. Dead batteries/ weak batteries(I got about 3 turns of the motor before mine quit), low /flat tires, or badly sun rotted. I picked up my M814 at fort Dix, and drove her home after spending 10...
Hi everybody. I made it home safe- at least the cab did- The rear end towing Adam's old pickup is still in the last county I left. I have learned that an M814 with a Genrac Genny in the back, and towing a 1/2 ton Dodge, will make it from MM 8 on I95 in Virginia to Aiken SC on one very full...
Check the tires for tread separation. My chevy 2500 was going down the road just fine, and then all of a sudden, the back end started a jumpin. Got out and looked, and I had a 4" bubble in the right rear.
