It sounds to me like your in the perfect situation to daily drive one. You'd have a hard time stopping me from doing it if I had a 10 mile drive to work, but alas I am a field service tech so I'm on the road all day every day and that would suck in a duece.
Good point about what the military considers a road. Adding to that, the military also didn't plan to go faster than 48mph according to my dash plate so the brakes and engine power were built with that in mind.
I've always felt that when towing, a trailer should have brakes capable of stopping its own load. I usually let the trailer stop the whole rig when towing my mudder with my civy pickup. The pickup's brakes only get used when I need to stop a bit faster. I try to be a very safe tow'er with...
I'm gonna guess the military spec'd out a truck to fill a need of a 2.5ton cross country capability and the duece filled the need. Remember its an army truck so if the situation calls for a smaller or larger vehicle they have it ready and hand.
Of course its overbuilt for the task, but that is...
I tried going to home depot, lowes, and two types of sherwin williams stores and got no where with the paint guys. They looked all told me they can only make paint if I take a sample and put it in their kiosk thingy. They dont seem to know how to actually operate their mixers in my area. So I...
I've road the 9N in wheelie loading it onto my trailer with a 7ft box grader behind it. Wasn't likely to flip, but the front tires stayed off the ground for about 5ft.
The tractor guy in the video on page #2 worked well, but I agree if the nose of that tractor been a few lbs lighter he'd have...
Oh yeah, the mud truck has 4.88:1 gears, 350 chevy engine, weights <> 5,700, and even pulled the duece the first time it was stuck "in wet grass" at idle. Didn't realize the front drive air line was pinched shut so no 6x6.
Its been a blast on trail rides with no lack of power for any situation...
I actually did have the wife run the duece in reverse and have gotten it further, but I simply need more weight in the pulling vehicle or more brains:)
I thought about putting my 1500lbs of concrete bags I had for the windmill in the bed of my mudder, but its radiator is also in the bed and I...
I haven't really put a lot of effort into it yet since I've been doing my windmill project this weekend and I wasn't going to let a stuck army truck ruin my plans.
windmill is finished so its time to get serious.
I will say that the strap is about a 70,000lb one I picked up years ago and I...
I'm north of polaris about 25 miles off exit 140 which is currently closed due to overpass paving. Solid ground is a relative term in my yard, but its dryer just behind the truck.
yeah, its not bad, tires are just crap and at the time i wasn't planning to go swimming so the tire pressure was at street pressure. I've only been able to put it in neutral and move it backwards with my mudder about 10 feet. I'm sure if the truck holds out I'll get it unstuck eventually. I did...
Here's a couple photos. I also threw in one of my yard decoration project. Cheap windmill painted to look a little older and installed on a concrete platform because I tend to run into things while mowing and don't want a bent windmill in my yard
Windmill is actually going to be a...
I'm pretty sure my yard hates everything. So far I had a dozer nearly stuck, a 9,000lb skid steer really stuck, and my `05 Tacoma and `99 Grand Cherokee have both taken turns being stuck a few times over the years and now my duece. The only thing that hasn't been stuck yet is my trail rig.
I...
Singled rears. Yeah I know all about getting stuck better so I've been very careful of not making it worse. No winch and since my place is in an old field there's nothing big enough to winch from within several hundred feet so it would have to be an anchor like burying a tire. Good news is its...
I was using my duece to pack down some dirt and afterwards went to take a trip around my yard at night and got to close to a wet area. I guess it got a little wider after the storms we've been having. I got it stuck before right after I got it, its got the Goodyear G286 street tires so wet grass...
