OK - so this thread inspired me to go back and take a shot at mine this weekend. BTW we were in the 50's and sunny here in FARMINGTON NM for New Years!
My dogbones are on a '56 M36 gasser and I don't think they've ever been serviced or moved. (one was wired with bailing wire when I got it...
The lines to the dizzy are part of the vent/fording setup from the gasser - I have the same. If you have access to the manual, I think its TM-8022 off the top of my head, you will see we originally had a pull cable with three terminations that managed valves to the carb, the breather and the...
Definitely less work than swapping out a whole front axle quickly. And now you know the job's done right and is good to go. Great job - I always learn so much more when I have to clean up my own mess.
I am curious on this as I am working on a complete rebuild of brakes as well. I had seen both procedures specs as you did.
Given the lockwasher on the adjuster, I would think the "grunt" approach is perfectly workable.
Torquing? I dunno, I think that's what may have got you where you are if...
Ah, is your cab cover one of the later ones, then? I have wondered if they would align. Mine's newer too.
There was also apparently a side-to-side support support as well (perpendicular to the bows). I saw it in one of the manuals. Can't find it again.
BTW, my hometown is Altoona - so I know...
VPed - thanks for the response, I do have the top, didn't notice loops, but I will look!
Monkeyboyarmy - thanks for the spacing. I will measure it all up and post: might be able to take pics this weekend. I'll make sure to document the front too.
Thanks guys... now I have a plan.:p
(better...
Hi folks,
Maybe I missed it; I did several searches through advanced on "cab top bows","soft top bows", etc. Too much info and not finding what I need.
My M36 had no bows on the soft top for the cab when I got it (see avatar). Picked up three surplus to retrofit. The cab windshield frame has...
Thanks. Spool of 500' of 14 GA prestolite came in so time to make a new rear harness. Do you have the original trailer hookup? I was thinking about adding a new std. trailer plug as well, like my excursion.
Nice job - I am doing the same thing to my M36 gasser. The truck was owned by a mining company an their electricians butchered the wiring to make it MSHA compliant. How bad were the connectors to disassemble and add the turn signal wiring to?
Just unscrew?
Keep up the good work, electrical is...
Nice find. I have the M36 gasser, long bed version of yours, and it's air force blue too.
Saving one of these earns you a place on the MV honor roll IMHO.
Gassers are fun, but parts can be hard to come by and pricey.
Some of the manuals are still available on ebay; you may struggle to...
Fantastic! You are my hero sir! :clinto:
This is exactly what I was looking for.
Helps if you use the right search terms: I was searching "exhaust hole" not "exhaust cut out". Duh - on my part.
Thanks so much.
Bob
Hi guys,
I am wanting to run exhaust on my M36 through the passenger's side fender and up as is traditional, rather than along the frame and out the
back as it is now.
Did a search but came up empty on a pattern or measurements for placement of the hole in the fender. :???:
Mine is the old...
drbarnes - yep, same one. I used one on my M36 with a gasser and a 3052. It'll fit.
Oops ...double posted. Chase the bolt holes with a tap and use new hardware. I adhered the gasket to the cover so it stays on but kept the transmission surface clean so it separates smooth for inspection.
Your...
