HELP. MEP803 Generator surges up and down.

Do you have a small inline filter just south of your fuel pump, on the radiator wall? How old is this machine? How do the fuel lines look? They could be swelling and restricting flow. How about the fuel tank, have you ever cleaned it out? You may have debris floating around, causing sufficient...

Yup, and potentially a very big expense to replace should an extended run cause an engine failure. Wouldnt be unheard of. Whats your gph burn rate with the tractor?

    MEP 802A Fix-up Thread

You mean the fuel filter behind the dead crank (fuel separator)? If so, do yourself a favor and take the other side panel off that obscures it (which means taking the last roof panel off too). With the side panel off you can get the filter wrench much higher up on the can, and if needed, you can...

    mep-005 military generator no power

Welcome to SS. Is this a new generator to you, or has this machine made power in the past, and now it doesnt? Do you have the manuals? Have you done any troubleshooting using them?

Royal Purple Break-In oil good for our MEP’s?

I fired up the wood stove this morning for the wife and kids, so I hear ya... was mid 40s last night. Made for real nice weather here though, about 58 today working on the MEP in my garage.

Royal Purple Break-In oil good for our MEP’s?

Nowhere on the RP site does it say its for diesel applications. I think you need to just pony up freight and have the JD stuff shipped in. I think the RP is for gasoline applications. Got any other brand tractor dealerships around that might have diesel rated break in oil?

    MEP-8xx wet stack info

Even though you are in Texas... get a small space heater. You can easily draw 900-5kw with one, depending on style and size. Just plug it in and set it to run while you sleep.

    bug and critter screens

I will not be doing the radiator for that very reason. Here is the underbelly... pretty straight forward. If I didnt have a cross member in the way from the trailer, I would get the middles of the two sides (but its not meant to be). Should still keep everything out as is.

    bug and critter screens

Didn't think I needed to show both battery sides, and the belly opening is 1/2 way done, so I'll add that shot later. But I used 1/4" galvanized hardware cloth (23ga), with neoprene bonded washers and sheet metal screws. For the battery trays, I mounted downwards (so there were no piercing...

HELP. MEP803 Generator surges up and down.

Exactly which filters did you put in new? Just want to clarify. Has this generator run fine before now, or is this a new gen (and problem) to you? Fuel pumps can heat up and slow (slow failure), but I want to verify filters first.

MEP-803A: Rain water in engine compartment

Just wanted to pick this back up. I am in the final stages of throwing my personal 802 back together, and I think I am going to use this for the top seals under the roof panels...

    bug and critter screens

I've got a run of 1/4" hardware cloth and a whole bunch of sheet metal screws waiting for me to do up 3 machines... maybe I'll snap a few photos when I'm done with them.

    Proper trailer for 802A

Well they are under tension from the locking door handles, and should be taught against the panel where the hinges are mounted, so it really should not be much different than you have now. I mean, if you are running with the doors unlocked, you may have a fancy rattle can, but otherwise I think...

    MEP-8xx series Replacement parts

The Onan engine in the MEP-802/803 are literally Lister-Petter engines, except for the Onan badge. They are 100% Lister-Petter, OEM branded for Onan for this application.

    Proper trailer for 802A

Think outside of the box here... there is an easy answer, if you are willing to modify a few things. Instead of using the stock hinges that doors are hung on, why don't you remove them, and mount the doors with lift-off hinges? Like this...

    Proper trailer for 802A

So long as dimensionally an 802 will fit... should be just fine. If its permanent, you might just want to use jack stands at the 4 corners to pick up some of the weight, instead of solely relying on the tires (like they do with trailers). But with that said, it appears to be paid for... which...
