Personally my favorite tool in the fabrication department is a Port-a-Band. It cuts very, very quickly, very cleanly, with no heat build up, and makes a very nice smooth edge. It's not near as noisy as a grinder with a cut off wheel, no sparks, and no vibration like you get with a saber saw...
Most state laws that I have checked into state there must be a mechanical stopping component at each wheel. Reason for this is that if you have a pinion brake, and drop an axle, you have no breaking ability. (big truck "drop axles" are under a different law) A pinion brake can be used as an...
Finally got a little time to work on the Pig this weekend. Installed the grill with new mounting brackets mounted to the front bumper. Installed tie down/towing lugs to both axles and the rear bumper. Next I will install the rear pintle hitch to the rear bumper.
I don't know about the multi-fuel weight, but with my 5.9 Cummins and 6" sch. 40 front bumper the front springs didn't pay any attention to the weight. I think I'm going to have to purchase special made springs to soften up the ride.
4 wheel steering in actually easy. Most mods only require the right parts and a little welding/fabricating skills. What you guys are now talking about it multiple steering axles. This gets very complicated, and requires computers to calculate the needed hydraulic input at each axle according...
Sorry guy's. I've been having some medical issues, and had to have a minor surgery last week. I should be healed enough by next weekend to be back on the project. I will update as soon as I make some forward progress.
I'm working on a similar conversion myself, except that I am using a standard transmission instead of the automatic.

Oh, something else I forgot. The hydraulic power unit. I don't know if your power steering pump would be able to provide the volume needed to run two steering rams. The 4 wheel steering units I'm use to dealing with are mounted on machines that have a vast amount of hydraulics on them, so out...
If you can find a junk cherry picker or rough terrain fork truck it would be an easy install if you had already installed a rear steer axle. It is simply hydraulic lines, rams, and valves. The rams mount directly on the axles. The big draw back with using one of these set up's is it would not...
Here are some pic's of one of our rough terrain fork trucks. As you can see by the placard it has three steering positions, and they are set by a simple throw lever.
