Just my 2 cents:
Why do you have to have an A3? it would easier to find a real good condition A2 W/W.
Or... get a M109A3, ( M35 with a box instead of a bed ) put a winch on it and convert it to a "expedition type vehicle"
I like what this guy did with a M109A3:

Thanks for all the info, I'll pass it along, being that our two trucks are still owned by the Federal Forest Service I would imagine they would have come by and/or notified us if our trucks needed the gauges replaced.
Some of our firefighters recently hauled an old parted out M211 to the scrapyard. ( We used to have a M211 & a M135 as parts trucks for our since retired M211 based brush fire truck )
Well, seems the truck set off the radiation alarms at the scrapyard scale, the yard was shutdown, ppl were...
Good Luck,
We added a D turbo to our M35A2 W/W some time back.
We had another engine to get the parts off of plus another truck with a turbo to look at.
We did have to re-time the fuel pump per the manual ( and help from the guys on here )
Cool truck,
Yes it does, There are a lot of similar rigged deuces here in Texas, including the two we have.
One of ours has a 1200-gallon tank and it gets up to 55mph, our 2nd one has a 500-gallon tank and easily gets up to 60mph+, after we installed a turbo and bypassed the FDC.
We...
Happened in 2004 at a grass fire:
1967 M35A2 Brush truck with extended bumper vs Ford Ranger.
I was riding on the bumper of the deuce when this happened, didn't even feel a bump, just pushed the Ford Ranger out of the way. It wasn't very funny at the time....
The driver of the Deuce...
We replaced the taillights on both our deuces with 24v LED assemblies from fleetpride. Each truck cost around $240. Made a huge difference.
I'll post pics next time I go to the station and take some pics.
I think you were too harsh, A simple question was asked regarding the picture of a vehicle on GL, not a specific auction or location.
Do a search for M35A3 on GL and the winch A3's show up on GL along with the non-winch A3's, this is not a state secret......
Don't worry, I won't be bidding on...
gringeltaube is right, when we lost 2nd, we lost 3rd as well.....
you might pull just the top off the tranny, ( while it's in the truck ) to see if you can manually push the 2nd gear in place, it could be a synchronizer problem. in which case a new synchronizer or complete top assembly would...
We lost a gear once and tore apart one of our 3053 trannys and rebuilt it ourselves without a TM.
It was easier than I thought it would be, I've never taken apart any kind of tranny before. I should have taken some pictures. We had to get a new shaft ( we bought it used from Boyce equipment )...
This happened to us when our original "C" turbo went out on one of our trucks, an easy job turned into a pain in the @ss....
You might get an extra turbo gasket if you don't already have one. We found a bad gasket during a turbo swap-out that was almost eaten through on one of the corners
If you don't have to have a military hard top, you can get fiberglass. We got ours from Boyce Equipment, they installed a military sliding window in the back of it for us.

It has worked out well. It was $595 plus shipping, I think the total with...
The Texas Forest Service Yard is in Lufkin. Since you mentioned fire trucks I would imagine your scrapyard may be getting some of those trucks from the Forest Service Yard auctions.
All the military trucks the Fire Departments in Texas get through the FEPP go through Lufkin first to get checked...
We added a "D" turbo to our W/W earlier this year. It came without a turbo. After the turbo install we re-timed the fuel pump per the manual.
We primarily added the turbo because the truck smoked a LOT. I wish we had taken a picture of it going down the highway before we added the turbo. Some...
Those tires look like 12.5 x 20's. A place here is South Texas that does a LOT of tire work for the military has a bunch of 12.5's on stock M35 rims, those look just like them....
Our local tire shop does them for $50 too...
We run 50 PSI in the rear, 60 PSI in the front. We make sure our front tires are in the best shape with the newest tubes.
We've had hell with tires this year with all the big grass fires and all, we've had about 10-12 flats this year. Our standard...
With a clean air filter, our W/W with a "D" turbo gets up to 60 MPH, RPM's are around 2600 as well, 9.00 x 20 tires.
Our old '67 Kaiser Jeep WO/W had 11.00 x 20's and would get slightly over 60 MPH.....
jimm1009,
Thanks, I'll get the numbers and post them, it will probably be after Monday.
Our Data plates look just like the one in Lex_Ordo's post.
I just realized... why is there an old American Motors LOGO on it after the AM General? Our Data plates have this as well....
I'm really confused now...:|
Our two trucks are still property of the federal government, so no SF-97's, both data plates clearly say AM General, 1968, both trucks came with multiple copies of government paperwork and records saying AM General 1968, and both trucks are listed with the Federal...
