Looking through the TM schematics for wire # P55BB18, but so far have not been able to find it. If anyone can locate it on the schematics and also it's purpose please let me know. Looking inside the exciter/VR assembly it connects to a ground bracket that holds four components that appear to...
I'm wondering the same thing--slight speed changes should not cause such wide spikes in voltage.
Still trying to learn all this stuff myself, but the VR seems to be a more likely place to look for trouble.
Ok this one has become another mystery that I could sure use some help with. I'm working on two of these sets & both had the same problem--the percent power meter was bouncing whenever the sets were running. Both would read as loads were added but you had to just average the needle movement...
More bad (& confusing news)....now not getting any voltage at L1 & L3. No more under freq light (changed out fault panel). Next swap out will be a speed switch. Still confused about the strange DC voltage on the transducer. The set I installed showed no difference as far as display but I...
Steve,
Went out to start unit up & noticed under freq fault light on. Started up unit & the light would not clear after start-up. Set rpm with an external tach & closed main breaker & measured voltage at L1 & L3 at 120.3v. Checked frequency with an external meter & got 60.5 hz. While...
Jim,
I did find one of the lugs on the board that was not 100% tight when I started to back it out for identifying all the connected wires. When I put everything back in place I verified all connections were tight. Hopefully the slightly loose caused the problem with the frequency meter...
Steve,
Just got inside from re-checking the recon board wiring. Didn't start it up after checking with it being so late. I'll go through your checklist on Friday. I'll be happy if I have a bad transducer or freq meter. The meter pegging to the lower left side really threw me off. This...
Captain--now it's my turn in the tank....I just completed a single phase mod on another MEP-004A and after checking all the wiring changes & installing the resistors on the CTs, I cranked it up & right away noticed the freq meter "pegged" downward to the left. Checked L1 & L3 and got 120v at...

That's a good plan... :) Was also considering if I should add another ground to the meter board...but then again, if the original is good, then no need... Thanks!
Thanks Peter--The one I have reads "FS=1.2 MADC"...assuming that would be milliamps & DC voltage. So it seems the KW capacity (& freq range of the unit) is less relevant than the full scale deflection value of the meter. I'll also check NSNs to see if that shows anything.
BTW, the meter I'm...
The meter I have was supposed to have come off a 60 KW 400hz unit. I'll dig through the parts TMs & compare NSNs for each one--probably the safest thing to do. Was hoping someone had already crossed this bridge...
Thanks
Does anyone know if the meters on these three units can be swapped out from the other models? In particular I'm looking at the percent power meter & the AC amp meter.
Also, besides the freq meter, what about interchangeability of these meters from a 400 hz unit? Can a percent power or AC...
I haven't checked the wiring diagrams but I have engaged these main load contactors with the sets not running. (It's helpful when you can actually hear it closing.) I also haven't measured amp pull when the MLC is being engaged, but Mattell could do this as a check to see if it's pulling more...
Possibly something amiss in the main load contactor? Could be the actuator coil is pulling too many amps & causing the DC breaker to trip. If I was nearby I could loan you a spare to test with.
Actually, I've cranked & run this one several times with the oil fault light not working. (Oil pressure is good when running.) The oil bulb works in test mode but does not light up when the S/R/S switch is in run position.
Yesterday I mistakenly changed out the oil gauge sender thinking it...
Batteries are installed correctly. Thanks.
Edit--looked at wiring schematics & I see that a cable in the speed switch wiring harness seems to "feed" the voltage to the CR3 diode & K3 relay. I'll check the wiring in that harness & clean pins & sockets on the connector assemble & check reset...
This is a running unit that hasn't been started in about 8 months. Hooked up hot batteries, primed fuel system & then went to light-off & got no starter action, only fuel pump running. Starter is known good but I will be doing a "hammer-encouragement action" on the solenoid in a short while...
Starting with some basics here- 1st, not sure what you mean about "checked flow to the injector".. Have you verified the day tank was full & a good fuel stream was getting to the IP inlet? Please confirm that with battle short on, the fuel pump is filling the day tank & if so, you verified...
Get 6 treated 4x6 x 6' long, layout the footprint dimensions, put them in the ground about 3', then build the framing out of doubled-up 2x8s and then add 2x6 decking. Old tire carcasses are good for vibration reduction under the generator skid. Fasten the frame through the 4x6s with 1/2" galv...
