Welcome to the group. You'll find some good help here. I'll just throw out a few things for you to consider. Before picking a certain model, you should figure out what capacity generator is required, based on total electrical needs of your home or at least what appliances & circuits you want...
I could be mistaken (been occupied with other duties lately) but I believe I used to bleed the fuel system on my MEP 2 & 3 units without cracking the vent bolts on the housings.
Loosen/remove the hose or line from the inlet side of the IP and then run the pump until the filter housings are...
Crawdaddy,
From the diagram, it looks like you have the valves downstream from the water block & filter for each tank. If you don't already have this done, in addition to the valves you already have planned, you should also consider installing shutoff valves right off each tank in order to...
This condition is normal. The start switch must be held long enough for oil pressure to come up & holding the switch engaged also allows the field to be flashed in order for the generator to produce voltage. (With no oil pressure the oil switch will trigger a shut-down.)
As far as fuel issues...
1. Verify both batteries are fully charged. A 100 amp or greater battery load tester comes in handy for this. Batteries can show 12 volts but have no reserve amperage to crank an engine.
2. Remove each battery terminal & clean posts & terminals & re-tighten. I use a little grease on the...
Thanks for the great info--that looks like a good supplier with all sorts of products for fuel storage & transfer! Will order kit today. Greatly appreciate your effort! :)
Kevin
Had already looked at the websites but saw no link for parts and didn't expect them to sell directly to end user. However, I will try contacting them to see if they can provide dealer locations or if they do sell direct.
Thanks
Anyone know where I can obtain a repair or rebuild kit for a Tuthill FR152 Piston Hand pump? The one I have has the Tuthill logo, but I believe the Fill-Rite model is the same. This is a lever-type (not rotary) fuel transfer pump rated at 20 gals per 100 strokes. I can buy new pumps all over...
Captain,
I can't offer much help on this one as will soon be occupied for several months. If Sewerzuk could weigh in, he could probably help us out. I'm thinking he's busy somewhere as well--seems he too has been a little "scarce" for quite awhile.
Good luck with everything.
Kevin
Good deal that you found the problem! :) Possibly the connection was loose & it was arcing while running, eventually melting the connector. Did you install new connector & make-up wire & it's good-to-go?
Captain,
IIRC, a defective speed switch could be causing the field not to be flashed. This could be one of those coincidence failures (or murphy's law in action).
I have an ASK model I'm building for my brother & it is doing the same thing as yours. I found a missing pin on the wiring...
Burned or partially melted contactor on L3 leg on main circuit breaker? You could try resetting the breaker several times to see if the L3 side "re-makes" contact. Also check the generator leads coming into the breaker to see if you have voltage on L1 & L3. If you do then a defective breaker...
Captain,
It might help if you could do a few sketches with each wiring connection shown with some descriptive text for each one. Maybe some photos would help as well. Also, since this unit is obviously in a running condition (with all other mechanical & electrical functioning), I definitely...
Captain,
Just trying to learn something here, but I wanted to ask why you "unbonded ground from the back of the neutral lug"? Is this something you did on the generator itself or something in your house panel? Hopefully some time this year, we'll be connecting our MEP4 to our house so I need...
Captain,
For all the wiring changes (jumper & instrumentation wire moves) I've been doing on the underside of the board. The generator used in original video from Zewerzuk has the bus bar on the upper side of the board. Also, on all 3 units that I converted, the bus bar was on the underside...
Will,
I believe I discovered the culprit. In addition to the main load coming off my distribution box, I had an additional line connected to L3 which was not being turned off via breakers but only if I turned off the main breaker on the unit. So every time I removed the main load there was...
Haven't had much time since I've been out of country a few months, but have been looking through the TMs for more details. And since the unit runs under full load & at steady speed, the fuel delivery rate seems good. The problem seems to be excessive sensitivity to load changes on the...
