Back on the Project
Got myself motivated and back on the project. I was really timid about having to bend or re-bend my own vacuum lines...so I procrastinated.
Got the vacuum lines 80% installed - waiting on an oil line so I can re-install fuel / vacuum pump and complete vacuum system...
As my Dad used to say....
It's been so hot here in Atlanta that I just haven't had the willpower to work on Murphy at all. That ends tonight. I'm doing something even if it's wrong! My Dad used to say that to me when I was a kid to get me moving during times of intransigence. Still works, too.
Un-welding the pintle hitch plate
I had not intended on replacing the rear cross member on the Willys, but it looked so raggedy and really detracted from the overall aesthetics of the restoration.
I ordered a new cross member and related parts and all was well until I realized that parts...
Work, work, work!
It's killing me! It's the busy season in construction and I haven't had a spare minute to even check out Steel Soldiers much less work on the Willys. Life is way too short for this!
Your schoolin' may be correct! A friend of mine told me the process is: bondo on bare metal, first coat of primer, glazing. 2nd coat of primer, final glazing, and then one last coat of primer. Of course, in retrospect, heis finishes are for cars so that's probably too much for the Willys...
Out of primer
Started with the primer today. My first time painting a vehicle, first time with a sprayer, first time with filler primer...lots of firsts. Going to have to sand the primer considerably in several places where I didn't have the sprayer adjusted properly; used two quarts of...
Painted a Test Patch
Couldn't wait, wanted to see how the paint color looked. From the patches showing through, there's still a lot more sanding to be done. Still, it's motivational to see what it will look like.
I have the same issue on my '53. I had to replace both front fenders and the replacement ones don't have the 45 degree slash. It's not a problem except I'm a stickler for details like that. I am searching for a wrecked '53 that has good fenders...yeah, good luck with that...
Today I Found This On My M38A1
Hidden under four coats of paint - the serial number. Did not expect to find it. Also Learned this is a replacement hood - there is another serial number below this one.
Let's all chip in and buy MDJUAN a tape measure!
Been fitting up the body on my M38A1 (1953). Started with cowl, side rails, and wheel wells and am replacing tail panel, bed, and floorboard. Lots of heatin' and beatin' to get the replacement sheet metal to fit.
