I need some help identifying a part.

On my m1009, on the drivers side rear of the engine, there is some sort of brass sensor with a pigtail running to it. I believe the wires were black and yellow, but I may be mistaken. What is it? Temp sensor? I need the pigtail for sure, mine is dry rotted bad. The part was two pieces that could...

What is the function of the Gen 2 diode?

What exactly does the gen 2 diode do? I am refering to the one behind the voltmeter. My Gen 2 bulb glows dimly at idle, however my alt 2 puts out at 14.7. I just cleaned the relay. I have a rebuild kit for the alternator, I just want to learn the system more throughly. Where can I purchase a new...

    Do I need a 12 or 24 volt gen 2 relay?

Sorry, M1009. Neglected to mention that.

    Do I need a 12 or 24 volt gen 2 relay?

I did the search on an ac relay for an 89 cherokee on autozones website. I believe the one I need is 12v, but am unsure, as a 24v version was listed further down the page. The relays for the cherokee all seem to be 12v. I just thought it prudent to look before I leap. I am hoping this will...

Where can I get a low coolant module?

My low coolant module was missing entirely when I bought the M1009. They seem to be difficult to find. I cant even find the part # in the parts manual. None for sale here either. Any ideas?

    Tire size/ transmission wear question

Im nearly finished my rebuild . I would like to replace the tires on my m1009 with either 32 11.5 15 or 33 12.5 15. Do I need to be concerned with my tranny burning up, or having issues getting off the line too slow? What other issues might I encounter? Rub? Im thinking about getting BFG...

Can I shorten my Gen 1 belt safely?

I have Gates belts, about two months old. They are the propper lengths according to the cucv faqs article. My 25 7575 belt on the drivers side alt. is adjusted all the way out, and still seems loose. The steering pump belt is tight. Stretching perhaps? Can I step down to a 7570 (1/2" shorter)...

    Which bulb is "fuel gauge?"

Found it. It is the innermost bulb that services the fuel gauge.

    Which bulb is "fuel gauge?"

I went ahead and did the instrument panel cleanup, and painted the bezel and it looks great. I did however shortly burn my instrument panel light fuse. I know that the Gen2 and fuel gauge lights get a 194 bulb, the rest 168. Which socket exactly services the fuel gauge? there seems to be 2 near...

    cucv blazer help

I had the exact same problem. After having read many threads, I found this to be a symptom of a bad diode trio in Gen1. I rebuilt the alternator with the help of the TM and the reccomended rebuild kit mentioned here on Steel Soldiers as 27si rebuild kit. Problem solved. :jumpin:

Gen 2 dim at idle, sometimes slow cranking, sometimes not.

Whatever the root of my problem, I seem to have "accidentally" fixed it, Tightening belts- changing bulbs etc???? I pulled the rear battery to have it tested, 13v & 100% charge, so I guess alll is well. I believe one of my battery terminals may have been a bit loose. Perhaps this was the...

168 or 194 bulbs in the instrument cluster?

Check out "instrument panel cleanup" and the link "Instrument panel Decoded"

Gen 2 dim at idle, sometimes slow cranking, sometimes not.

The batteries show just over 13v each with the engine off. I have only been driving the truck for about three months though, I am unsure of the age of the starter. I will take the rear battery to be tested/charged. The slow spinning seems related to a lack of juice, but I could be dead wrong...

Gen 2 dim at idle, sometimes slow cranking, sometimes not.

With my m1009 at idle, I have 14.4 at gen 1, which I just rebuilt, and 30 at gen two( Iam guessing that this is thier combined number, I was testing by holding onto the red wire and ground.) At Idle my front battery shows 14.4, my rear 14.7. My gen1 bulb was out for a couple days, so I replaced...

168 or 194 bulbs in the instrument cluster?

I plan on cleaning up my instrument cluster as well. I found that it requires 168 or 194 type bulbs, or both. I believe the 194 is just a brighter version of the 168? How many of each do I need? Are they interchangeable? Is every bulb in the cluster the same?

What makes a glow plug swell?

I just installed some wellman 070's New gpr, and did the doghead mod. What I want to know is, What factors contribute to glow plug swelling?

    Blowby??

I understand that any 6.2 has a little puff of oil vapor when the oil filler cap is removed while the vehicle is running, but how much is too much? I am burning about one quart of oil every 1250mi. I even noticed the same litttle puff of vapor when I pulled my dipstick. No oil in my air filter...

How much blowby is too much?

My M1009 seems to run well (thanks to all of you), I am however concerned that my engines blowby is a bit excessive. I pulled the oil dipstick while the engine was idling and saw that a slight puff of vaporized oil was coming from it. Same story at the filler cap. The inside of my intake...
