Keith_J thank you for the explanation of how that circuit works. Not sure what a comparator is though. I'll keep investigating and see if I can drive a tach with that circuit and my vacuum pump/ess unit. Could I ask you more about that circuit from Lee Wagner?

I have SM1546EN and on page 6-21, figure 6-27, it shows the locations of 3 balls. I tried to copy and paste but it wouldn't work. That figure is for the MT654CR trans.

We had those come through West Colton, Ca. yard going to/from Ft. Irwin to play war games. Lots of trains from Ft. Hood Tx. Lots of M1 Abrams!!! Before U.P. took over they transferred to the Santa Fe lines that took them to Ft. Irwin. Wish I had took some pics. :(
