Culp, VA to Atl, GA Dec 30-31

Don't have anything that needs transport, but I am 12 miles south of Culpeper if you need anything along the way. Don't hesitate to ask.

    Bonjour from France !

Welcome! Always good to see a few of our European fellow enthusiasts on board. Here is my Vietnam era truck:

    Parts interchange question

White, Hercules and Continental all shared common parts. Built by different companies, but under the same license.

    brakes locking up

Another thing to pay attention to is the brake pedal return spring. A missing or very weak one can also allow the weight of the pedal to rest against the master cylinder piston and partially apply the brakes. It may seem insignificant, but it can cause brake overheating issues. Of course...

M35 - help me own a deuce! quick top fold-down and up

Ditto to davidkroberts.......My avatar shows my M715. It will fit in an 8ft garage door with the top on no problem. A 7ft door will clear if the top bows are removed. They are a still a pretty sizeable truck too, OD, noisy, and fun to drive around in! The deuce is great, but it isn't a daily...

    Keys?

I did a small key switch in a hidden location that interrupts the red start button circuit. That way it may slow someone down a bit, and give them a harder time. And I have to add: The whole thing of giving folks a hard time about keys is really getting old. Seems it would be easier and...

    Ones that Rusted Away

I understand exactly. I watched a kid take a very rare, late 50's Honda motorcycle and carve the engine out of it for an aborted go-kart project. After I offered to buy it for a very good price. The one that really kills me is when someone will never sell a vehicle, but will never do anything...

    Radio Setup

Here is how I did my M715 so there was no mods if I ever go back completely stock. Just couldn't bring myself to cut the dash! I don't see why you couldn't do the same thing in a CUCV: I got it from Tractor Supply, and you can plug in a headset too if you like. This one has the speaker built...

    Cooling Off Idle

Tim, I think you're fine. I watch my pyro after a haul into town of 15 miles at 50+ on the highway, and its around 400F at idle until I let it sit for several minutes then it comes down to around 275F. If I just backroad it around the area, the idle temps come down very quickly to 275-300F...

    M35 Mine Protected Vehicle

Yep, but how did they get the length and radiator to fit without cutting the hood and moving the headlights?

    M35 Mine Protected Vehicle

I wonder how they squeezed the Cat in there. Maybe moved it back into the cab? Neat looking machine!

Crushing a Car with a Deuce.

Woulda been better if it had been a 5 ton........:-D Sad to beat on a deuce that way though. I think it needs a loving home here at my place where I'd only drive it over smaller, less valuable cars.

Cold tires and cold roads and a rumbling ride

Here in VA it generally is in the 40's give or take for daytime highs in the winter and nighttime can go anywhere from 40's to zero. I do notice that after the deuce sits for a week or two the tires tend to flat spot a little and in the colder weather certainly take a lot longer to get...

    Dual Glasspacks

I am not "threadcrapping" nor "ASS-U-ME" ing anything. (I find the first term funny though!) Last time I checked this is a public forum, and when people ask for opinions, then, they will get them like it or not. I generally find that when people do not hear what they want to after asking a...

    Dual Glasspacks

Maybe you can't hear anything, but I can assure you that the folks who already have an axe to grind with owners of surplus MV's can hear something that isn't as pleasant sounding to them as it is to others. I think noisy exhaust only draws negative attention to a hobby that needs all the...

OK, I Can Take Bad News

True, it is a small cab. I just find the placement of the seats and shifters tends to make it harder to squeeze under there than some vehicles. But yeah, very few are easy to work under the dash.

OK, I Can Take Bad News

Funny thing with a deuce, for such a large truck, there is almost no room to work under the dash......

    Dual Glasspacks

    Man, that is funny!!!!!

OK, I Can Take Bad News

The easiest way to get the underdash end off is to disconnect it from the engine, then pull the whole gauge panel out enough to reach the back of the tach. Saves the twisted neck, contortion thing.....

    Straight pipe on a NHC-250

Whew! Thank God that's resolved. No chrome! I do know that without a turbo, diesels are very loud without a muffler. Way louder than a whistler "C" if that says anything. I guess it wouldn't hurt for flow though.
