    Changing the thermostat questions

I picked up a new thermostat and seal from NAPA the other day and have them laying here right now on my desk. The thermostat is part number 358-180 and the seal part number 4622. THe seal does fit the thermostat and can be pushed on by hand. I just did it. It is snug, but can be done without...

I think Barrett-Jackson is about as close to reality as say, maybe, Donald Duck.......

    Arkansas Tank?

Had a similar thing here a few years back with a guy who had a "tank" It was john Deere tracked crawler. Neat piece, but far from a tank. Hope it turns out to be something worth the while!

    Dave's Neverending M715 Build Thread

Looks like a good solid truck! I love mine. Once the extra "additions" come off and its all one color, it will make a big difference indeed. Keep us posted on your build!

M35 useless fact for the day

Thanks for the tire tip, Tim! I also had a similar vibration that would come in at exactly 48 MPH (on the GPS) It was the farthest rear inner RH tire at about 12 lbs. Aired it up and she's smooth as glass now. Never thought a tire could do that. I was convinced a tire was out of balance.

Add Acetone for better diesel mileage?

dburt, I'd say if you definitely saw a difference and were still driving the same, then there must be something to it. Just beleiving it works wouldn't produce an actual rise in the MPG, so either the Acetone made some change, or you changed your driving habits.

    water in rear diff.

Reminds me of my Deuce when I got it. Both front boots were torn and the knuckles were full of a mix of sand and grease and water. The front diff was full of water and gear oil mixed, and the bearings all had been wet too. Total mess that I am glad I didn't drive before fixing.

kid from MO needing some info

At 17, I was told to go get a job and earn it yourself. There was no further discussion on the subject after that. I'd second what hobie said though. They are cool trucks, but I wouldn't try to make it a DD. For that matter, I wouldn't try to use any MV for a DD. Not that it can't be done...

    Bad Deuce engine?

That clicking noise sounds like its at about half engine speed like maybe a cam or valve train issue? Sounds sick whatever it is though. I hope that isn't standard training for NG guys.

    defense and safety while traveling

Not to mention the many restaurants, businesses, courthouses, public buildings, etc. I think CCL's are pretty much a feel good idea. I'd rather take the chance. At least if I get caught for posessing a handgun, I'm still not dead from being shot by a criminal who illegally purchased his...

oil pressure, water temp and volts.

Another reason for maintianing a steady and proper temp is so that the lubricating oil can do its job. When an engine never gets up to full temperature, the fuel never completely burns, and can wash down the cylinder walls and dilute the oil. Gasoline engines have more of a problem with this...

Newbie Needs Input On Upcoming Project...

I think the two most significant factors, to me at least, would be the lack of powersteering as mentioned above when backing a trailer, and the gearing. Unloaded and with the fuel turned up a bit, my deuce will get up to 55 in a reasonable time, but not quickly, and at best will maintain 45 on...

    Gazing into a crystal ball.........

Mr Doyle, thank you for the excellent insight as always. Running a restoration business (motorcycles) I see two distinctive camps: First there are the purists. They want the 100% original to the nut and bolt restoration that rarely sees any use and is primarily a static display. These...

Thinking more about 12 volts from the 24 volt system...

Ditto that. I run a 10 amp unit for my pyro and GPS and it works fine for $30. Unless you plan on huge amp draw stuff one of the cheaper reducers will work just fine. Mine is regulated and fuse protected and output is a constant 13.8 volts.

    What do you think?

Definitely not legal here in VA or the surrounding states.

    OD iron rim?

The only thing a DOT stamp means on a wheel is that a government official approved its design. Most aftermarket wheel builders probably build a better wheel than the OEM did.

    OD iron rim?

Most military vehicles are exempt from the DOT standards, or more correctly Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards in place today. After 1967 any vehicle operated on public roads has to have dual circuit brakes, padded dashes, DOT approved lighting, defrosters, electric wipers, and a myriad...

    restore or no

I am on the fence about mine right now myself. It is OK, but has a few rust spots, and some dents and such. I want it all one color again, but I do use it and enjoy not having to worry about it too. I think my plan ultimately will be to fix the few spots and throw a coat of paint on, but...
