M1007 - CUCV Suburban Clone Build Thread

1 year later. 15° coolant drop and 30 mph increase. Post 314 has me detailing my first on road coolant heat issues a year ago. Several post since then have dealt with the steps I took to fix it. I wanted to be able to change a single part, observe the difference and finally say. “This is the...

    Giddings texas to northeast area

Was this directed at me? I am not aware of anything getting delivered to me or that I am sending out anywhere. I also don't know of any members in the big town of Giddings besides myself. If you need any help while in the area, let me know.

Can anyone back up a M101?

No joke on the M416 practice part. By the time you see them in the mirror, you are almost at jack knife stage. As suggested above. Practice and use small movements.

    Fuel Mileage..

Diesel engines are great constant speed motors. Make them pull a 7,000 pound square barn door up to speed, sit at a light and repeat is not showing their good side. Especially if you are trying to keep up with traffic when pulling away from a light. Your numbers sound pretty right on.

Engine running great then all of sudden dies on me

8 years ago I had a M1009 that the idle was just wrong. It started, went down the road great and got really good mpg. But, the idle wasn't "right." I was told here on this website that an IP rebuild was my best solution for now and the future. I spent the time calling all the Stanadyne shops...

    Gen 1 charging issues?

Just the head lights? It seems your alternator is working properly so it is probably a light wiring or most likely. A light ground issue. Follow the steps in the -20 troubleshooting guide. Or, skip the step by step to just open the hood, find the ground bolt on the engine side of the valence...

    Mystery Transmission Fluid Leak?

Your truck was mad at you for not driving it. Now it is happy. Or, what he said above.

Largest military ND tire that I can fit?

Yes, 11.00 NDT tires fit really nice inside the M715 fenders. They are the same diameter circle, so they look great. However, if you still have the stock axles. Chances are you will end up breaking a front drive shaft if you give it any power with the steering over to one side. That of...

M1007 - CUCV Suburban Clone Build Thread

Well summer is here with a vengeance now. I can finally compare apples to apples on my cooling system. Another recap. Last summer 95° outside temperature I was not able to drive more than 45 mph after the first 10 miles of everything getting up to temperature without hitting 215° or higher...

Don't forget the inflatable decontamination tent he erected in the same back yard too. That was hilarious.

Well, now we know there are at least 3 of us 6.5 nerds in the group. Good information.

    How to keep her cool?

Another vote for a new radiator. Your radiator is 30 years old. It might look good in the wide open area below the cap, but it probably has some restrictions in the tubes. Were you in 3rd gear at 32 mph doing the climb? The faster you spin the engine, the faster the fan goes, the more the...

    Intake Vacuum Hose

Technically, it isn't a vacuum hose since diesel engines don't create any vacuum. It is a Crankcase Depressurization Regulator, CDR, hose. That out of the way. There is very little pressure on that system if your rings and valve seals are decent. Maybe 5 psi max. It looks like from the...

OK. I didn't see the turbo or turbo intake and couldn't tell for sure what size the bypass water hose was. That makes it the slightly different '95-'97 version.

Photo of 6.2na with serpentine belt

That is the 1988-1994 set up. There were small changes for 1995-1997. Then 1998-2001 had the alternator on the passenger side, different style a/c compressor on the driver side with a dual thermostat cross over pipe. I write all of that for anyone wanting to do the serpentine conversion. The...

    Duramax Diesel Engine Conversion Kit

Besides the electronic complexity. Where would the intercooler go? I know if a radiator gets a nip and a tuck here or there. That an early year Duramax intercooler with a few modifications can be made to fit after the entire front valence is reworked. However, that is for a 6.2 radiator...

Hmmwv. Not getting fuel (after new pump)

Black is excessive fuel with the engine warmed up and under load. white/gray/greasy smoke is unburnt fuel from a cold engine. Incomplete combustion in other words. Not firing on all 8 completely but fuel is there. The hazy smoke is normally a sign of bad glow plugs. It reads as if you had...
