Bought a deuce - the journey begins

When I refilled my tranny after the OD upgrade, I used the specified amount of gear oil and everything was fine.....until the first 2 hour trip at highway speed. The whole right side of the truck was coated in oil. I frantically searched for the leak; this did not at all look ok! I thought the...

What did you do to your deuce this week?

This is an interesting picture. It is a German HANOMAG 18t half track, version 9 (with rear mounted crane, for tank maintenance units. 6t or 10t version, I cannot tell). It is depicted in front of a fire hall somewhere in Germany which makes me wonder if this unit saw post-war service as a wrecker.

Intermittent power loss - fuel starvation?

10-4. Fuel hose for in tank pump on order. Filters on order. HH re-torqued as per Floridianson (no more moistness in this area). Will change these items and report back.

Intermittent power loss - fuel starvation?

It's an LDS, I installed the 12 point upgraded rod bolts, stock max RPM is 2800 and mine has the governor turned DOWN to allow 2400 RPM max. If it still throws a rod, I can't help it.

Intermittent power loss - fuel starvation?

Took it out for a drive to reproduce the problem. It takes at least a half hour, until everything is good and hot, to start seeing the problem. Until then, running at full power (up to 2400 RPM, boost up to 12psi) is fine. Here is a video. You can hear the boost vanish at 0:08. It is...

Intermittent power loss - fuel starvation?

Nope. Hose "looked ok" so I put it back on. Smart, in hindsight....not. Sent from my SM-G950W using Tapatalk

Intermittent power loss - fuel starvation?

I have a spin on secondary filter with its own base and did not retain the original filter base. I don't think I have this valve but will check. Sent from my SM-G950W using Tapatalk

Intermittent power loss - fuel starvation?

LDS engine starts as soon as you touch the button Ran fine all year, she is being driven a lot (when not down for upgrades or maintenance) Yesterday, four hour trail ride, no hiccups On the way home, in 5th at about 1700 rpm it suddenly felt as if I lifted my foot off the throttle...

    Field find Deuce question

You could remove the short propeller shaft between the rear axles so that they can turn independently. That might help in determining which chunk needs help. Ideally, you can lift up the rear end, but reinstalling the half shafts (drive axles) and repeating your "tug test" will work, too...

I think that is exactly what he did.

    Field find Deuce question

My five cents: Could be the transmission stuck in two gears...then the rear wheels would do what you describe. Easy to check seeing you already have the rear half shafts pulled....can you grab the transmission output yoke and turn the transmission output shaft/drive shafts by hand? Might be as...

What did you do to your deuce this week?

Put everything back together after Waterloo power steering install and some sheet metal repairs and painting. All I can say is...WOW. It drives like a completely different truck. The biggest differences I noticed are the truck feels "smaller"; probably because it steers so effortlessly the truck...

VALSPAR 383 Green (federal standard 34094) - also for tinting bedliner

I needed HERCULINER tinted 383 Green. The company uses a VALSPAR automotive 72 paint paint mixer (Valspar refinish system). They had no idea how to mix 383 green with that. I obtained the instructions from the VALSPAR refinish color lab and here they are, in case they are useful to somebody! The...

    M35A3 W/OW ....winch installation's ?

Rusty implied this in his answer - it is a hydraulically driven winch, so the process of engaging, disengaging, and controlling is more sure footed than in the purely mechanical setup on an A2. What does that mean? Have you ever been busy winching in a A2 and trying to make sure you are in "LOW"...

Welcome! As for the engine, they all have a variant of the LDT-465 multifuel engine. A screaming "C" turbo or a more efficient "D" turbo are personal preferences rather than real-world differences. Do not confuse a "C" or "D" on the engine's data plate (e.g. LDT-465-1C) with the type of turbo...

    Replacing Fuel Tank/Lines & Filters

Put the filters on and once you have everything together, switch on the in tank pump. Let it run for a solid two minutes or so. This will pump fuel all the way to the injection pump and fill all the filters. Then hit the start button. It should fire up nicely.
