Hm. Thoughts that come to mind:
- 194g is a LOT of aluminum to lose. Aluminum weighs about 40g per tblsp. Does your new piston have longer piston skirts?
- weigh an undamaged piston (to eliminate the guess work around how much material might be missing); scratch that, weigh them all! How...
I love my LDS.
An LDS with the 5th gear overdrive is an unbeatable combination. I am always surprised, still, how well it pulls on grades where it ought to slow down!
I can fix the first one:

Not too much useful info in that one.
There is a long thread on the multifuel differences. I remember that, in summary, the differences are in the IP/HH and the valve train, specifically the intake valve rocker...
From the diagram labels it appears that the pistons without the oil passage were used in production engines and the (later) model pistons with oil passage as replacements.
This would suggest that they are interchangeable.
The bottom of the piston is still oil cooled via the jet.
Weighing...
Here is the instructions: https://www.jatonkam35s.com/M105TMS/TB9-2300-280-30.PDF
Basically, they go into the left and right bottom corners of all the "fields" in the bed sides. You need to relocate the reflectors and cargo cover tie-downs. There should be a blank metal template (just the metal...
Finally finished the Waterloo Industries power steering install. While any project on this truck spirals into some sort of production, this one was particularly frustrating. From horrible quality tools (out of the box) over power drills (yes, 2) dying a smoky fiery death to a missing bracket and...
I was in the same boat as Oerthedge21 a couple of years ago. I did use plastigauge. A friend of mine who is a heavy equipment mechanic asked me "Why? You spend money to buy the plastigauge, spend time to measure the bearings (you need to open and re-assemble bearing caps), only to find out that...
No, that is normal. When the heads are off and you spin the engine over, the ring friction is often enough to lift them. All but one. There is always one that won't budge. It's the one Murphy is sitting on while he watches you.
I have an LDS with the one hole injectors and Menaces' description is bang on.
Smokes at idle and runs ...umm...clean-ish under load.
One of these days I'll switch in the two hole injectors I have...

We have some good experts here on the site but metinks a dripping injector might do that!
Now it's decision time how far you want to get into it....1 piston, rings and liner.....or 6 pistons, rings and liners....and mains...and rod bearings...decisions, decisions.
I do recommend the 12 point...
benhasajeep, I followed your advice and used a 3/4 in drill bit.
I have also resigned myself to the fact that the universe does not want me to do this power steering conversion.
When I started drilling (brand new 3/4 in drill bit, new Ridgid drill, cutting fluid, sloooow speed) I noticed...
Drained coolant, took radiator out, turned upside down so I could solder the stupid hole I made. About the size of a 9mm bullet hole. Put back, refilled. No leak when static. When engine warm, a pin head drop of coolant just hangs there underneath the repair. No "leak" or constant drip. Yup...
Began the install of the Waterloo power steering.
Murphy was asleep for most of it, but then I discovered that the radiator fan shroud was quite loose after trimming. "No problem", I thought. "I just take my welder and tack it to the radiator bracket down there".
Problem was...that was not a...
