M1007 - CUCV Suburban Clone Build Thread

It isn't ready to get to you yet Joe. Maybe. I found a set of pull off H2 wheels and tires back in January. They are on the Cowdog. Tires are about 50%. There was another set on Craigslist this week. Even better tires. They were in New Braunfels. 98 miles away. Getting them might give me...

Factory style floor covering. Who's the best?

When we did RED we got the LMC front and rear as mentioned above. We spent what seemed like forever making the rear inner fender covers actually fit the fender. The mat isn't really molded to fit. I have learned doing the CowDog project that the factory wheel well insulation while useless as...

M1007 - CUCV Suburban Clone Build Thread

I put 60 highway miles on it last night. Great road manners. I turned off the TCC lock for 3rd gear. That makes the in town driving much, much smoother with it locking only in 4th. I haven't pushed the turbo above 8 psi or 850° yet. The boost builds really fast and comes on strong so far...

    Soft Back window m1009

I don't really appreciate being called chicken little. I don't know what kind of long drives others have done in a M1009 at highway speeds. My rear glass slowly settles down. I have found that after a few hours at speed, I will start to get a headache. If I notice it and think about it. A...

M1007 - CUCV Suburban Clone Build Thread

No, the Prince of Darkness is not involved in this truck build. I have a '57 MGA and a '67 Cooper S. I can't handle any more Lucas in my life than that. I can't figure out a way to put the TPS on the truck backward either. I re read my earlier post from today and realized I was saying...

    Soft Back window m1009

The main problem will be exhaust gasses. Unless you can make it air tight, you will poison yourself.

Factory style floor covering. Who's the best?

We did the LMC thick rubber floor mat front and rear with the LMC insulation on RED when Colton built it 4 years ago. It has held up very well to high school life. Super quiet inside at any speed compared to all of my other trucks except for the just on the road yesterday Cowdog M1007. The...

optimizer long block - hummer 24V or cucv 24v

There is a shop in LaGrange called American Muffler. Old guy owns and runs it. If you tell him you will be paying in cash when you walk in the door. He is very agreeable. He has made a bunch of bends for me and end flares. I just bend a coat hanger in the shape I need, show up with cash and...

M1007 - CUCV Suburban Clone Build Thread

I left work and it wouldn't shift out of 1st gear again. Only at my "max shift rpm" set into the Compushift computer would it shift. I lowered it down to 2,000 rpm and it would shift just fine. Very hard shifts though and if I got below 1400 rpm it would down shift with aggression. Slowing...

M1007 - CUCV Suburban Clone Build Thread

The internal wiring harness for the 4L80E showed up Thursday but Colton graduated high school Friday. I had to stay home and host a huge number of relatives and such instead of going to work and getting the Cowdog running. This morning the internal harness was installed along with a new power...

optimizer long block - hummer 24V or cucv 24v

I had the same issues Rich. The smallest hard to find one was at the water pump backing plate to the pump. I think your rate of loss could just be the test pump baffles/seals or even the radiator cap seal on the adaptor. Did you ever figure out the Dalton date code code? It turns out the...

oil cooler connection type on cucv radiator

Call Leroy. He sells coolers with that funky non standard GM thread with AN adaptors. I thought you were asking about transmission coolers. Sorry. I think I know what you are asking about now though.

oil cooler connection type on cucv radiator

Rich, I used Russel part number 640330 to go from the stock CUCV diesel radiator to -6 AN lines on my transmission cooling system. -6 is 3/8" ID. The Leroy oil cooler AN lines are a lot bigger. -10 maybe? I have them as well.

oil cooler connection type on cucv radiator

Rich, 1/2-20 is the thread size of the stock radiator transmission cooler metal line threads. Is that what you are looking for? Inverted flare of course.

Fuse panel - to be, or not to be...

Get as much parts from it as you can as suggested above. The fuse panel will be mostly the same as the CUCV. There might be a few things different like the choke circuit, windshield washer circuit, water in fuel light, etc...

I wanted it as low as possible. But did cut the front fenders some to clear.

M1007 - CUCV Suburban Clone Build Thread

Rory, I made it home just as the rain hit. I have never done IFR in a helicopter but imagine it probably isn't fun. Joe, i have a Chevy horn button. The GMC button came from the Gasser half ton when I did the column swap. I was busy with the transmission issues and neglected to change them out...

1951 REO m35 air tank location

That isn't a '51 front fender rear support. It looks like the '53 or newer which is what they stuck with for the rest of the production run. I will try and go look at my '52 so I can explain the differences better.

M1007 - CUCV Suburban Clone Build Thread

No rub on any tires. I have flexed it as much as I can with dirt piles and such. I really like the solid feel of the M35 and M715 going down the road. The M1009 trucks feel solid, but just a little mushy to me. I hate the way my 2wd Suburban feels on the road. Too much like a marshmallow. I am...

M1007 - CUCV Suburban Clone Build Thread

The last two weeks have been busy. Compushift TCM installed, Dakota Digital VHX gauges wired and installed, center console extension made and installed, radio hooked up, interior finished, bolt on base plates for swing away tire and gear carriers made and installed, title transferred, tags...
