Monday was prep and prime the body day. Tuesday was hinge pins, bushings and strip the four forward doors day. Wednesday was sand middle row doors and prime them. Along with the cargo door hinges.
Today was was going to be front door sand and prime day. Why Chevy put those stupid stick on...
I took off work today to get this bare metal finished and primed before any surface rust comes back. I was doing good welding a little, doing other things on the truck, welding a little, etc... The pictures show I had it filled pretty good. I went to add just a little more metal and the panel...
I have been sanding and sanding and sanding all weekend. The roof got rust free and primed last Sunday. I couldn't touch the truck until Thursday of this week. I almost got both quarter panels down to bare metal though.
My arms gave out a little bit ago and I will get back to it tomorrow.
I...
If your tires look not pointing the same direction at times and then by turning the steering wheel they look right. You have something very loose. The best way to find it is something called a dry park check.
Put the truck on a solid clean dry surface. With the engine off, have someone move...
Do you have the needed parts yet? I am switching a chrome 1987 Suburban double stack headlight valence over to a CUCV single light set up. I think we could use some part swapping here. I already have all of my stuff off the truck even.
Rory, I am almost exactly between Fuzzy and you. Colton and I are actually coming to Cedar Park tonight to look at a heavy duty sewing machine he found online. I forgot all about this thread. Sorry I can't help at this time. The next time I go to B/CS I will check this thread and see if it...
Multifuel will go right in with just a few motor mount changes and of course about 100 small things. Kenny, recovery4x4, has a great thread from years ago about pulling an OA331 and putting in a multifuel.
Having a complete multifuel power pack to start with would be nice but not necessary.
Gilispie red oxide primer and 383 paint. I have gone direct to bare cleaned up metal with just the paint before and 10 or more years later all is still good. Putting the primer on should make it even better.
I thought about the scaffold idea and even started setting it up today but I didn't...
I have seen the bent frame horns on Gimpyrobbs M725 10 years ago at an off road park we had a M715 gathering at in Tennessee. If I am going to pull on the road, a bumper will be installed.
I got got almost all of the roof down to bare metal today. I should get it primed tomorrow. Any...
I also have gotten pretty good at moving dead M1009's and suburbans around with a tow bar with this project. A M1009 is the perfect "yard mule". I have a 2x4 I cut to just the right length and can pretty much hook up in one or two attempts now.
With the the legs all the way short and the towed...
I finally have acces to my pictures. Getting it home, making a clean spot, the miles and miles of surface rust on the roof and what an hour with a 36 grit DA pad will do.
I don't know what you have access to over there. We have transmission cooler kits in just about any auto parts store. Putting one of those before the radiator is a good idea.
However, the cheap cooler are just that, cheap with push on hose connections. They work but if a hose pops off you are...
Another week and another update.
I trailered the Cowdog to the house yesterday behind the Blue Bomber. I got pictures that will get posted later. I spent an hour or so trying to degrease and clean the front frame once home without much success. I think a late night car wash visit with a roll...
33x12.50 tires cost mpg's. A few people have put on 33x10.50 tires. They don't loose as much mpg.
Something else brought up that I didn't mention was the biodiesel and ULSDiesel. My mpg drop off for my M1009 happened at the same time I got 33x12.5 tires and that was within a month of...
It is all about the speed in my opinion. I have 3 square bodies on the road everyday.
The Blue Bomber USAF Suburban has a speedometer which is right on according to GPS and the interstate mile markers. 6.2/TH400 if I keep it at 60-62 on the interstate full tank, as in liquid fuel sitting...
It is amazing how the two of us who live below 500 feet are both building trucks with engines that will let us get to and enjoy the mountains. While bringing all our junk along at the fastest speed we can possibly go.
Yes, the Navistar 506 block is the one you want. Better metal for the...
Rich, that is a P400, not a 6500. the P400 has the built in stud girdle and a cast aluminum oil pan. You already have a lift on your M1009 so a different cross member would be needed to make it fit your truck. Most people need to do the lift too. Give the seller a call or write to see what...
You want the DB2 with the .31" plungers. They came on the 6.5. Here is a great thread about the pump numbers. I can't find it to link it right now. Diesel Page:
db2-4911-the magic, the myth, the mystery
Search for that over there and you will understand the pumps better.
I went looking for this thread to put down something about front wheel bearings. I didn't realize it has been more than 2 years since anything has been written though.
Colton has been daily driving it for almost 2 years now. He and a friend took it on a 1200 mile spring break mountain bike...
