My recent 1990 M998 purchase.
In the auction info it stated truck cranked but would not run. So I figured I'd gamble as all my 1008s and 1009s needed only battery's or glow plugs to start.
Get the thing home. No coolant, I assume it was drained for storage, so I put in 5gal. Put in fresh...
I've got a 3116 powered a3 that has been sitting in my parents back yard for 3yrs. Trying to get it up and going now. Installed good batts, cranks good but I'm not getting fuel. Little to no trickle loosening the fuel filter. I keep reading of priming with compressed air. Where/which line am I...
We've had an A3 for a bit over a month now, have had A2's for a few years now.
I like that the A3 has electric wipers, heat, good seat, marker lights, muffler, easy reach master cyl fill, and if a winch truck its hydraulic. It's easy to drive and operate, winch is extra nice. Pulls real good...
I tow bar'd a M818 (~20,000lbs) for 160 miles with my old deuce. 5th gear was a no go on anything but downhills but it held 2,600rpm in 4th just fine. Not a powerhouse but it got the job done. Yeah they're under rated.
Checked batteries... They are 12.7v and 12.6v... Cleaned connections at starter and at batteries, no change.
When starter switch is pushed the volt gauge goes dead and the air buzzer dies, when I release the button the volt gauge goes back to green and air buzzer comes back.
Just went out back 10min ago to start my 1971 deuce. It's been sitting about a month now. Hop in and flip the battery switch, air buzzer on and volt gauge good.. Hit the start switch and it cranked for maybe a second then dead.
With the power switch on the buzzer and volt gauge operate but as...
Yep looks like it will just be the 818 tomorrow.
It's something stupid with the A3, when running everything sounds goodaua. After looking it over the filter is after the pump, and I'm getting good fuel flow so the pump must be fine. Maybe air at injectors? Checked return line going back to...
Cleaned tank, new filter, and 20gal of fresh diesel... Truck fired up fairly quick, ran for a min or so then died... Tried cranking it a few more times and got nowhere. Then used the either start and it fired up... This time we held it at 1,000rpm for about 2-3min then it started to stumble and...
Drained the tank, about 30gal of red off road diesel. There was a tacky/sticky redish paste coating the bottom of the tank thats about 1/8in thick. Scooped it out, very thin layer up the sides of the tank and going up the pickup tube.
Hope to get filters later today and around 10gal of new diesel.
A3 Wont stay running.. Fuel issue.
Picked up my Dads M35A3 yesterday up in Sparta... The guys there wanted to get us loaded up quick so they fired the truck up and drove it out of the lot so we could get it on the trailer easier. It ran for a few minutes while we were getting ready to load it...
Yep next thursday can't come fast enough... Talked to the GL guy in OH and he said the 915 was a no start but I guess they didn't try to jump that one from the sounds of things? Oh I hope it's just batteries. hahaha
Won a M35A3 in WI back in the 1st week of July and a M915A1 in OH around 3 weeks ago..
To my suprise both were cleared for pick up yesterday. Talked to both sites right after and set up times to get both vehicles.
Looks like I'm going to Sparta WI 9/2/10 to get the A3, and the GL guy said...
I have 395's mounted on stock rims.. I had the local Big Rig and tractor shop mount them for me... No problems what so ever... Cost me right around $500 to have them dismount old tires, buy new 14:00 tubes, and mount new tires. That was back in Feb of this year.
Love the upgrade, can cruise...
Do they get up and go any better than an A2? As soon as my EUC clears (Someday) I will be picking up an A3 in WI and plan to use it around the farm. We've got a few large trailers and my current A2 is less than stellar above 10mph under load.:p
Figured it out... Locks and drum off... Pound out old studs and replace... Not bad, just a heavy drum.
Now If only Eastern Surplus would have sent me the right stuff instead of 15 rights and 5 lefts I'd be set.:x
TM's didn't explain things clearly, at least I thought.
How far do I need to take the front hub assembly apart to be able to change studs out? Do the lock nuts, drum, and bearings need to come off too?
I have 2pc bolt together rims and 48's for a M818 but the studs are not long enough on the front.
