Just did a mapquest, its a bit ounder 500 miles for me. My Dodge pu gets 12 maybe, so ouch, gas would eat me alive. I will try to find one closer I guess. If I find sliders, I will keep ya in mind.
I want to build a slave cable setup, but does anyone know it the proper connectors are commercially available? I will use welding cable, and some older welders used similar plugs. Anyone try this yet?
on my M1009 I picked up from Drexel. It runs and drives great. My plans are to find a surplus top (anyone got one in the central Indiana region?) and trim it down to only the sealing areas around the cab and bed rails, and build a solid cab partition, with a hinged cargo cover for the rear. I...
now consist of an M1009, M1008, and as of yesterday an M1028. Actually, my fire department has two trucks from the DOD, the 1009 is mine. I will try to group them for a pic to post. Just waitin on the title paperwork from the GL, and the DOD.
My batteries checked 24 volts also, but a shorted cell in one was killing it. Have someone hold the volt meter while you try to crank it, and watch to see if the voltage falls. If not, its in the starter solenoid circuit most likely, even the neutral safety switch maybe.
JW, I saw your buddies truck as I was leaving. I remembered seeing it at the 4 way stop as I was pulling out. So far, 1 battery is all mine needs except major cleanup.

JW, I must have just missed you. I got there at almost 10am, and darn it, wouldnt ya know. Mine was the only 1009 that wouldnt start so far. It wouldnt jump, the batteries I brought were wrong, so winchec it onto my trailer. Got it home. Ended up being one bad battery. Put one in, it started...
Chuck, picked my m1009up this morning, but the GL folks wouldnt allow me to look yours over without written permission. If you'd like, when you come in to get them myself and maybe some others could meet you and help you.
