First off - commendation for asking. Many people just **assume** they can figure the winch out and do crazy things. You took the time to look and ask.
Aside from what you find in the manual, I would
- inspect the PTO visually from underneath (severe leaks? loose stuff?)
- inspect the...
On the picture with the missing flame heater lines, also note that the rubber connector (bellow) that you see in the background on the intake is cracked.
The "thin-stacker" non-turbos are becoming somewhat rare. Most of them get turboed at some point. If you preserved one, it would be cool.
I do not have one, so I can't tell you how they feel or compare. From what I see here, maost people agree that the smoke plume is more impressive than on...
I would
ensure that I bleed in the proper sequence (master cylinder and airpack first, then starting at the right rear wheel)
ensure that the brakes are properly adjusted (pedal travel is not a lot; a few brake shoes out of adjustment will eat up a lot of pedal travel)
I would also check for...
I am glad you are ok and the incident happened in probably the best possible location (minus the curve). IIRC, the bolt heads that hold the brake drum to the hub have a hole drilled through them and are supposed to be secured with safety wire. This would prevent the bolts from backing out.
Is there a quick way to test the band brake with the winch mounted? Both for function and for binding? I run my winch according to the TM, but I do not recall any info on that.
I searched for a specific posting....and it is not steelandcanvas' post.
There is a good writeup of a complete overhaul of the springer seat, shock and all...and I can't find it. About 2-3 years ago. I KNOW I read it!
Mine were leaking after proper install and, in contact with Jatonka, I toqued them up quite a bit over the recommended install torque and have not had issues since (almost 2 years).
It appears that the UPS quote, from the customer service centre, not a UPS store, is significantly higher than anything anybody here thought it would be.
So - my transportation need is still there! Anyone?
Crawdaddy, thank you for starting an interesting discussion.
Another thing to consider is that the "manly" image of the w/w trucks not only exists amongst us, but also existed when they were still in active service. The chances that a truck has seen severe offroad use (dare I say: abuse) in...
The top one does look like an air pack and the bottom is a drive shaft U-joint. They both look a bit battle-fatigued, but it is hard to tell from a picture. Rebuild kits for the "long" airpack are available.
Jim Hunter, you may have seen that all manuals that you could ever want or need for these trucks are available for download from this site. If you do not want to spend the time, they are often on eBay, on a CD.
You will find that operating and restoring is a lot easier with the right manual.
Hello, guys!
I need a medium towbar taken from 27813 (Black Creek, NC area; near Wilson, off the I95) to 13669 (Ogdensburg, NY) to a commercial address.
Any chance?
The good news is that the sheet metal appears to be decent and most things seem to be there. The turn signals are nice, early style ones and probably original.
Good luck with the restauration!
Picture 4, to the left, that is a Mercedes G wagen sitting on its brakes there...:cookoo:
The truck is up to the fence, close to the entrance gate. The bed is pretty banged up and it is rusty, for an AZ truck. I could not get to the cab to see how nice that was.
Adjacent to the site is a NG compound; they have a row of M35A3s and 900 series trucks in the rear. No pics, sorry. I did...
M35A2C with comms shelter S-280 AND MAN trucks
Pima Air and Space Museum, Tucson, AZ. A few days reprieve from Canadian sub-zero temperatures.
I was pleased to see that the museum's M35 is not as nice as mine!
Pics of the two MAN trucks are further down!
