Dirt71 might be able to help find a home for them - he's not building 10-tons anymore, but he knows who he sold his trucks to, and they might want rare parts.
I'll be there on Saturday, after all IT'S MY BIRTHDAY! Have to spend time looking at green trucks and the displays they have there. It'll be quite a treat - maybe not for my daughter who'll be in tow, but did I mention IT'S MY BIRTHDAY! :)
Sad to see so many trucks, especially the newer ones, ending up in the junkyard. Hopefully a few of them will be lucky to roll again, and provide parts for those we have that need TLC.
I know, I know. It's WAY too early to start talking about it. Just suffering from post-Aberdeen depression, wishing I got more time to cruise around the show and see more things. Every show is the same for me in one respect - I never get a really good chance to leave my spot and tour around...
I do buy the line that fuel costs contributed to the lack of attendance. Not so much the missing spaces, not sure why someone would pay $60 a space on a weekend with great weather to miss a show, but it does explain the lack of people who just show up to buy and cruise the show. I see this...
I swear by a product called Kroil. Stuff is best when you soak it and leave for a day or two. Does wonders on rusty threads. Spray in on , grab the BFH and swing it!
Leaving in about 5 hours, truck and trailer are loaded up to the pucker factor. Hope to see a couple Steel Soldiers when I pull in late pm today. Save some brews for me!
If anyone wants to stop by and say "hi" I'm in Yellow L/M 15.
Perhaps it might benefit you to put a "wanted" post and that pic in the classifieds, there always seems to be someone here who bought a CUCV and doesn't want the radio stuff in it, might be willing to sell it off for cheap.
You're not going to set mileage records in a military truck regardless of what you do to it. But you can fuel it with half diesel and half free used motor oil, thereby halving the cost of fuel in the tank. In a way you are doubling the mileage for the fuel you pay for. It's just another way...
Fifth wheels for 5-tons are easy to find, junkyards are littered with the remains of M52 and M818 series trucks. I'm sure there's someone on this site that has a parts truck that can sell a cheap fifth wheel to you.
