The bumper bumpers are incorrect - the 99th ID was active from only 1942-45. In more recent years it is the 99th Regional Support Command, based at Ft. Dix/Lakehurst Air Base.
Nice trailers!
That's a great save if I ever saw one. I think it's worth a couple grand if you can get it running and quick spray-bomb it. Clean it up a little, I don't think it would be hard to find it a home.
Your last best bet at finding out what it is, is to contact David Doyle (here he's ddoyle), he might know more info. That, and you can write Military Vehicles Magazine, they might put your short letter with a pic or two in the front couple pages with a request for more info on the truck.

TacticalTruck owns the world's only M124 10-ton that was used as a test bed for RO/RO operations in the 1960s, and it had a huge weight in the ass end of it for static load testing. Perhaps this was the reason the thick plate was installed? I thick the rollbar is simply to protect the driver...

Wow - I sold 9 deuces in the last 5 years. If anyone said "I'll give you $12,000 for any one of the nice trucks I sold, I would gift wrap it and put a giant bow on top for free.
Just. Wow.
Most maintenance in the military is done by 18 year olds who don't care too much because they don't own the vehicles. They do the bare minimum to get by when the motor pool sergeant isn't looking. Keep that in mind.
Try Bismarck Guns. They did a great job making a M2HB dummy for me. The owner makes custom one-offs all the time. Last time I chatted with him he was making a dummy Flak 88 for a reenactor. His stuff takes time to make but he does it right.
Just an option - you didn't specify that it had...
