He may be able to get most of the parts back into USA, from what I gather they were sold surplus from a US base in Germany. However, even if you can, the bottom line is, how many folks you know have surplus American helicopters? I know a few, and the birds are so old the chances of parts...
I guess there's no easy answer to this. I think the correct answer would be, however, to wear protective gear no matter what paint you are sanding on, just in case.
Great - another imaginary drink that rideni can mix up and call his own and get drunk on at Aberdeen. "Deuce Juice", made from grain alcohol, diesel fuel and DOT-5 brake fluid, and is OD green in color.
Is original 24087 (and other original military paint that is NOT CARC) lead-based paint? Should we be paranoid about sanding old military paint without a particle mask on?
Never ceases to amaze me how ugly those MVs are. And that's saying something when I think a deuce looks pretty cool.
But they DO go places, don't they? ;)
Mmmmmm...nothing like Dutch Oven cooking outdoors! I have fond memories of the Boy Scouts (I became an Eagle Scout), in a way I wish I had a son so I can see the next generation have a blast as well.
Camo goes well with Boy Scouts!
Thanks for the kind words, guys. I've always been a decent writer, I've been published in a few different mags over the years, but this is the first time I submitted an article to Supply Line. Glad you liked it.
Sorry about the pic, Neil, the editor gave credit for your pic to someone else...
For those who are going to Aberdeen next month, and want to travel in a group with other MV owners to the show, arriving on Thursday, May 12th, there is the East Coast Convoy. There are convoy serials coming from the north and south, along I-95, and there are plenty of stopping points along the...
I don't know of one online, I'm sure there are plenty. You might want to check out any local places that do decals , I'm sure they can make them in any size font you need....
Once I tried a 1/2" impact because it was all I had. It sat there going tick-tick-tick-tick and the nut just sat there. I got a 1" impact from CGarbee a couple years back and I never looked back.
A WWII German Dornier Do 17 bomber was found in great condition on the coast of Britain, and is planned to be raised and restored. More details:

I wouldn't say worthless, but suffice to say that to use these LMTV rims on something other than an LMTV you'll have to put a lot more effort into it than it's worth. UNLESS the tires are nice on them, then it may be worth bidding.
It might be worth it if an axle swap is in the works as well...
The easy way to tell is that HEMTT rims have 10 center bolt holes, and spaces for either 10 or 16 bolts around the outside. FMTV/LMTV rims have 10 center bolt holes, but have the spacing for 20 bolts around the outside.
I want to post a big [thumbzup] to Kassim and atankersdad, thanks for the rides, and Kassim: whether you restore that rolling environmental disaster area for the next time, or buy a new MV to be a little more friendly on the trails, it's always a pleasure seeing ya at RC! :driver:
Yeah, thank the Lord the warmer weather is here. I can't wrench in the cold, busted knuckles sucks when it's freezing. Once the income issue is done, I'm back on the gun truck like flies on shyt.
Awesome looking work. I can't imagine the work that has to go into modding a gooseneck like that to your specs and still be safe, that must take expert welding skills. [thumbzup]
