The last series of tanks that this trailer probably would've hauled would have been the M48 series, maybe the M60. The Abrams is too heavy for this trailer.
Dirt, you are a heckuva guy restoring all these heavy pieces. Can't wait to see this one done too....
I was born in Wayne Township, NJ. When I was little, my old man told me there used to be a Nike missile base right behind where the local hardware store was at the time. Time passed, and thanks to the internet, I was able to confirm my dad's story. According to wikipedia, the site was:
NY-88...
That is an interesting truck. Sure hope it went, or will soon be going, to a good home. With as few of them that are out there, it would be nice to see this rarity restored to its former glory.
CARNAC, only you would have the sense of humor to put all the crappy newbie questions into one thread with such class. Most of us would've found a newbie thread and replied "USE THE SEARCH FUNCTION YOU DUMBASS". :)
Lots of guys who restore old Dodge Power Wagons replace the rusted out beds with oak flatbeds and sideboards. They do it very pretty-like, so don't bubba the job, and you'll have a really cool seller. I'd change the paint job too. Flat OD green is fine.
I would run 50% diesel, and 50% other myself. You need good clean diesel to act as a lubricant for the IP. I wouldn't say 50 gas and 50 other, because who knows what quality that 50 other is? Stick with at least half of the good stuff, and you'll be fine.
Is there any engine made by Caterpillar that would be appropriate for an engine swap, my mind is thinking the 3116 out of a M35A3 but that is too large, too heavy for a 1/2 pickup. Does CAT make anything smaller that might work?
For those who are military history buffs, remember that the Vietnam War was important during the 1960s and early 1970s, but the Cold War against the USSR was more important from a strategic perspective. Even if your vehicle wasn't in SE Asia, it might have served in Alaska, Europe, or elsewhere...
The Jim Thorpe meet in PA is coming up here first weekend of March, was wondering what everyone is bringing there to get rid of. Post your stuff here.
I have a pile of canteen covers, e-tool covers and ALICE frames, not setting up there but hoping to find a surplus guy who wants them as a...
I have an article from March 1973 here in "Soldiers" magazine that tells the story and shows pictures of many thousands of US trucks that were, on the way back to stateside, were gone through a complete rebuild at Okinawa with spare parts that were also going back stateside. The junk was used...
No, the one featured in the magazine was definitely an A2 variety, with a shop van body. It wasn't an M109 type, more like an expansible van type body.
I believe that desert camo deuce camper was featured in one of the gun magazines a while back, I remember Peter Kokalis wrote about it in one of the more popular gun rags, maybe SOF. I can't remember if he built it as well....
Looks awesome! Do me a favor and PM me the contact info for the company - they did a great job, and I might have to use their services in the future for other custom plates...
