You're in for a lot of work. Here's how I would do it:
1. Take a grinder and grind down all the affected rivets in the area of the rust, removing the bond between the roof supports and the sheet metal.
2. USing a sheet metal nibbler, cut out the affected rusty sheet metal. A cutoff tool...
Have to borrow a steering wheel puller from Advance Auto Parts tomorrow, I tried replacing the steering wheel today but it is on there something fierce. Will post more pics tomorrow.
Installed the completely rebuilt carb today. The rebuilder blasted the outside in a cabinet, new everything, looks great. Also, the armor was completely installed, and then a couple panels had to come out - one of them has a radius cut incorrectly and it is messing the whole left side of the...
Good luck on getting the real tube, I know they are out there somewhere, but it's like that thing with the hen's teeth.
The pic of the TOW mule came from a previous thread on SS from years ago, I thought it was kinda cool so I saved in on my machine.
Looks pretty cool, Nick! Great work.
Question, though, that TOW tube looks pretty short. I'm used to seeing the South Park movie ones, ya know, bigger longer and uncut. Is that the right TOW tube you have mounted, or is it another type I'm not familiar with? Is the tube you have mounted...
It's a "Buy it Now" auction, so I doubt this is banned here. Austin Weber has a rare set of M715 towbar feet there. Looks good condition, thought I'd point it out because they are hard as hen's teeth to find and I had a couple ask me about them in the past year.
Large tow Bar Feet 1"R 3/4"...
I like the concept of a contact maintenance truck, but I wouldn't get one, only because I see more general utility of a regular pickup bed, like a M880 or M1008. I would, however, have a tag-along trailer like a M116 pioneer tool setup to haul all the gear and genset that the -1031 would...
I believe it's called a M139 Bridge Truck, and they are not street legal due to their being over-width. Farm and ranch use would be a good utilization of that model, though.
I paid $550 for a new one for the gun truck project. On the other end, I have one that is really beat up and has some very poor rewelding done to it that I can't sell for $50. Perhaps if I relist at $20 I might have a couple bites. If you find a good used one, I'd shoot somewhere in the...
The right light was a blackout stop/marker combo, and would be correct until the late 1950s when a lot of trucks went to the dual stop/tail light and a separate blackout light. They were then updated in the 1970s to the plastic combination tail/stop/blackout light housings we are all familiar...
Has anyone ever boxed the frame of their MV for more strength offroad? I doubt someone would do it with a deuce, but M1008s, M880s, jeeps, perhaps....
Sorta on topic question: I was told welding on a frame is a bad thing. Please explain why boxing the frame then would be stronger, and not weaker.
Rust gives it character. A very long road ahead for you, but these are pretty uncommon, you will be the only one on your block with one!
I can't tell if that's a gas tank or a mattress.
