I picked this up from BigCASE last week when he swung up here. It is your standard M416 1/4-ton trailer, I wanted one for a while since I sold my old one years back and missed it ever since. I wish I had taken some digital pics of that trailer, I rebuilt everything ground up, $600 worth of new...
Yeah, it was to convert the unit to run off a 12-volt battery, not the standard military 24 VDC one. I removed it since the picture was taken, and put the pintle hook back in its place where it belongs.
Well, this will be ending up in the classifieds shortly. I was going to fix it up, but I have too many projects and need to narrow down my aspirations. This is a Barnes 275-gpm fuel pump, can also be used with water. Uses a 4A084 gas genset motor for power. The pump, I was told, works great...
The first and fourth pics are civvy re-paints. The 2nd is an actual Army fire truck, and the 3rd is painted Strata Blue. It also belongs to a SS member here...
No. And as long as people keep bringing up the subject of swapping axles for smaller ones, or ugly truck contests, it will keep re-appearing to remind people that an MV should never go to waste like this.
I wouldn't. The 5-ton is a LOT heavier than a 2.5-ton truck. Those axles would be under a lot of stress and for safety's sake, I would not chance it.
It would be kinda like the guy who had a few cases of beer and did this:
I saw one on I-81 being towed down the road on a flatbed, looked in good shape. They will get out someday, but it might be a few more years before they say "get rid of them all". Heck, the CUCV series 1 is still coming out surplus 25 years after they were accepted, so I wouldn't hold my breath...
When you're looking behind the front panel of the MEP-003a 10KW genset, on the outside there is a small eye-bolt used when helping to lift/adjust the genset when loading, but there is also a hole about 3" diameter or so, nothing is in mine. However, I found this pic sent to me by speddmon...
Does Kublo's have a junkyard, where you can pull your own parts like TNJ or Memphis? Or are they more along the lines of a vehicle dealer? Might be interested in making a run up there early in January for shyts and giggles to see what he has.
The APCs are US-made M114 APCs. The Sherman looking thing with the boom on top is a M31 Recovery Vehicle, and in fact, based on the Sherman hulls. The tank after that is a M48-series US tank. Then a Dodge Power Wagon military variant of some sort, looks greatly modified. The 5th picture is a...
After doing some research, I found those ladders are the proper ones for the MKT-85 kitchen trailers. However, if you notice the pics, they each have a "demil" on one side of them with a torch. I supposed they can be repaired with some bar stock and some bolts.
I have seen a couple incarnations of the CJ-10 used off road. The gearing is very low, so it's perfect for rock crawling. However, it does need some cosmetic and suspension-related mods to make it work in the backwoods.
Good luck with your project!
Some pics from the day:
pic 1: Bunch of new coil springs in the scrap bins. Wish I knew what they were for.
pic 2: Line of MEP-003a gensets that I pulled parts from in order to complete mine.
pic 3: A HEMTT cab with DING DING a pair of NICE HEMTT seats in them. Wish I had more time yesterday...
