I am going to a junkyard shortly. Last time I was in this yard they had a nice '77 W-200 4x4 with a 318ci. It had some frame damage, so it couldn't be used on the road. I will see what parts I can pull off it for you.
CARNAC - I have State Farm for my deuce insurance. It covers Historic tags, no specified garage storage, no commercial usage, etc. Cost is about $150 per 6 mos. for me.
Coulda had one from Colemans for $300 until recently, when it got cut up. They are pretty rare, but what use do you have for it? Unless you are getting into the pizza oven business, using a giant surplus gas furnace scares me. And I don't scare easy.
If any were ever surplussed out, it was a long time ago, 1960s or 1970s, and they were pretty new then, so if they got let go, it was an oversight. I have seen a couple dealers with the bridge sections out in their backyards.
Not sure if the M-1 Abrams-based replacement ever went online....
I was bidding on a lot of scrap last week that still showed listed in the auction listing, but when you clicked on the link, a notice came up saying that GL had removed the lot from the auction.
I talked to Cabell and we're going to try and convoy in at least part of the way from the east. Not sure if Chris S. wants to do the same, but the offer is open to anyone who wants to convoy in. I'm heading westbound all day Wednesday before the rally.
One of my dreams is to have my own 4x4 shop. Old Jeeps like that, I'd just tour the countryside looking for them to save them and slowly restore or build them up. Thanks for posting them!
Sure!
We patrolled some of the trails for the weekend. Some are good for vehicles up to deuces. Some up to 5-tons. Some are jeeps and power wagons only, mainly due to the narrowness of the trails. To be honest, me and Cabell didn't see too much in the way of maintenance to do. We think...
There are some surplus M1061 flatbed trailers coming up for auction - they have 12-14 foot beds on them. Might be a good compromise between a cramped M105 trailer, and a semi.
A deuce can handle pulling it, although a little slow on the hills.
