Well that's disappointing. I fully recognize that you won't be able to turn the thing into a silent hybrid, but I had hoped that it would at least make a noticeable reduction in the noise level.
You're probably right. I'm probably a little too paranoid about it.
Still, snap some pics of your install, and I'd be very interested in your sound readings. My neighbors have complained a lot less since I sold my M35A2 with the whistler for my 923, but I'm sure that proper sound deadening...
Let us know how it works out for you. I looked over that stuff (and a few others) but I shied away from it because of the relatively low temperature rating. A0/A1 engines operate at 175-195*, and A2's at 190-200*. The link you posted rates that insulation at 225*. I'm concerned that engine...
Nice looking truck bonedoc!
I think you'll really be happy with those electric wipers. I tried and tried to get the air wipers in my deuce to work and never could get them going smoothly.
Your run-of-the-mill Deuce is rated to handle 2.5 tons in an offroad envinronment (hence the name Deuce and a Half), and roughly twice that on road. You'll find threads where guys push those limits well beyond the rated capacities. I can't speak to the capacity of a bobbed Deuce, but I can...
I'll echo Jeepsinker...don't bob it. It'll be much more rugged and useful to you as a farm truck if you leave it a 6x6. Plus, a bob will cut into your hauling capacity. You can still add winches and dump beds without a bob-job.
Personally, I would aim for a late 60's-early 70's M35a2 with a...
The 4 bits or so in the upper right appear to be C clips or similar. They are more flat and C shaped than the other pieces. Either way, metal in your oil is never a good thing!
Hope its not to late, but pick yourself up a good set of hearing protection. I prefer the 3M Worktunes headset, so I can pipe a little music into it. Your ears will thank you, and the music will help make the trip a little more enjoyable.
It'll depend on when they were last greased. I went through about a tube and a half on my first round, trying to make sure that I had forced out all the old grease and replaced it with new. I used much less on subsequent greasings.
There's currently a Deuce for sale on craigslist near me thats listed at $2.2k, but it is stripped and riddled with rust from saltwater and spray. Its missing its bed and doors, and the tires are dry rotting. Seller says it runs, but I'm sure it hasn't been serviced in anyone's recent memory...
I've heard and read of people using a water heater element, but honestly that scares the crap out of me for all the obvious reasons. I'd rather go with a heater blanket of sorts and wrap the outside.
395's and air assist steering are nice perks, but condition is a big part of it too. How are the systems? What type of fuel has he been running (diesel? or oil/hydraulic fluid/other)? How does it shift?
Post some pictures and that should give us a better idea. On the surface though, that...
Wow. I'd definitely try to drain out as much of the gasoline as possible. Even though its old gas, I'd still be leary of a stray spark sending me to the burn ward. Once empty, make sure that it's been aired out sufficiently to remove the vapors, then I'd drill and retap the drain plug.
Is...
