I usually push 2k miles a year, give or take, driving it about 2-4 times a week. And nothing but baby tears go in the tank. I mean diesel. They're about the same price right?

Is just the cluster missing? I mean, is just the faceplate missing with the wiring still intact? Or have the wires be scavenged too? I would be more worried if any of the dash wiring has been messed with.

Correct. I've put both batteries on chargers at the same time before while completely hooked up to the truck. That shouldn't be an issue. Again, if you're uncomfortable with the setup, you can always disconnect the short cable between the two batteries and/or the negative cable. Either way...
As long as the truck is OFF you don't need to. Each charger connected to each battery is creating its own circuit, and no juice is flowing to other components. But if it'll make you more comfortable, just disconnect the negative terminal.
And a word of caution: Watch where you're wrenching...
Ideally, your battery should read and hold about 12.7 volts when fully charged, and at 100% capacity. If it's anything less than that, your battery capacity will suffer. This chart should help you..

Bill, you might want to try draining the entire system and see if the correct amount of coolant comes out. If the correct amount flows out, I think it would be safe to assume that it has a clear path from the expansion tank to the lower draincock. If only some drains out, and some remains in...
So coolant is coming out of the overflow tube at the expansion tank? In that case, it would seem that the system may be clogged somewhere downstream. If coolant is flowing into the expansion tank, and cannot make its way back into the radiator/engine, it will eventually fill the expansion tank...
I'm having the same issue with starting. Its very random, maybe two or three times in the last 6 months, but I get nothing out of the starter. Then if I try again, it cranks right up. I suspect it to be a bad ground but haven't found a culprit yet
I definitely swear by my coolant heater. (On the NHC-250, Kat's 30101 replaces the water inspection plate on the right side of the engine)
I'd be interested in hearing people's experiences with the silicone/pad style heaters too.
When I changed my filters last month, I drained all my fuel into buckets and took the opportunity to run it through a water separating funnel (Google: Mr Funnel). Luckily my tank was fairly empty, and only had about 15 gallons worth of diesel...but I managed to separate almost a quart of water...

I've not done any real scientific testing or anything, but I usually try to leave the heater on for at least 2-3 hours or esle I don't think its worth your time to plug it in. Anything shorter than that I just don't notice enough of a change in the cranking abilities of the engine to warrant...
