Welcome to the site! I've found these trucks much easier to work on than a modern vehicle with all of its computers and emissions equipment. Plus there are TM's a plenty to help with diagnosis and repairs.
My biggest issue so far has been finding the correct TM in a timely fashion. But that's...
Today I did the first oil change to my M1114. Super easy! I love these trucks are basically old school technology. I also replaced the fuel gauge and aired the tires. Still need to Dremel the paddle lock left on the anti theft device located under the dash. It's a Master Lock so it may never...
What I did to my HMMWV today was secure the batteries, install a gasket at the air filter canister, secure the TCM and finally figured out it's impossible to attach the latches at the top of the doghouse.
Also I drove my now running M1114 to the gas station for some fresh diesel.
Forgive the new thread. I'm sure there's an old one somewhere but a search of any type here keeps removing the word "oil" as it's too common of a word.
The TM for my truck states regular 30 weight dino oil will work, but 15w-40 seems much more common and may be a better alternative.
I've...
There seems to be 2 styles of TCM for these trucks. One with the brackets that extend out to the mounting holes, and the other with the bolts located further in. Mine has the bolts mounted futher in.
Does anyone else have a M1114 with the TCM mounted with the bolts that are futher in? I'd like...
Yeah, mine didn't come with that bracket extension on the bottom. I didn't think about getting a picture of the underside of the TCM, but it has 4 bolts already installed. They are just way shorter than the bolt holes.
My minty fresh surplus M1114's transmission control module is not secured to the floor. Am I missing a mounting bracket for it? When I bought the truck it was also missing the rear passenger seat that goes over it, so obviously things were taken from this area. I've scowered the TM's for any...
There are a lot of surplus sites selling HMMWV parts. I'm particularly fond of Eastern Surplus as they are a sponsor of the site.
Here's a link to their brake stuff: https://www.easternsurplus.net/PartsList/4/HMMWV
What did I do to my HMMWV today?
I finally got my surplus fresh M1114 running today and I'm ecstatic! I bought the truck non-running so anything could have been bad. There was no Smart Start controller but the TCU was KDS so I matched it up. There was no Serpentine belt, no CDR valve, a flat...
I shipped through Veritread.
I'd post a photo of my invoice but I don't want to risk private data getting out there. I'm looking at it again and it shows the breakdown of fees. For sales tax the line says:
State Sales Tax - 6% - Florida $xxx
County Sales Tax - 1% - $xxx.
The truck was sold at...
My truck was missing the fan side of the disconnect so I had no choice. Never thought about reaching it from under the truck. My arms have the bruises from reaching through the fan to prove it. lol
It's amazing what parts are scavenged off the trucks before they are surplussed. I'd think...
