I had a 97 with the 14 bolt. I ran at least 500 hp through it towing and offroading and I think it was the one thing on the truck that DIDN'T break.

Even in Kalifornia you can get a "Non-Op" registration that does not require insurance so you can park it as long as you don't drive it. It's not that much $.
