Check to make sure your getting 12 volts to your GP relay. Sounds like your ballast resistors shorted and your getting 24 volts. Mine did that and blew up the GPs (2X) until I figured out what was happening. aua
I was at the DRMO at Kirtland AFB in the late 90s and a M1008 came in with 25 miles on the odometer. Apparently the unit ordered it new and NEVER used it. The clear plastic was still on the seat! It was going to auction but another unit scooped it up at the last minute......:mad:
Mine spun around when the long bolts that hold the front housing came loose causing the internal rotor to spin free. I made the strap out of 1/4 copper tubing pounded flat. Drilled and tapped the connections and cleaned the internals on the starter. Reassembled and installed....works great.
I ran a lead from the 12 volt battery to the relay (where the old lead came from the ballast resistor) Used the old relay. Its been working for 9 years that way.

Im looking at putting some of these wheels on my 86 M1008
I use the truck as a daily driver and Im tired of listening the the wrapped out 6.2 on the freeway.....
Any advise tips?
