Doors always open. Anyoine that wants to hang out and talk MV's, go for a hemtt ride, crush some cars.... Oops, forgot, can't do that anymore.... ;)
(it just never gets old rofl )
Serious, Quark came out for a visit last earlier this week.. I love having visitors that speak MV....
Fortunately not even close.... If I was finished, I would be bored and move on. My goal with this project is to get the major restoration stuff done (sandblasting, paint, bodywork, wheels/tires) and then space out the stuff I really enjoy doing - modifications!
As you know, I still...
Okay - today I began making good on a promise to SS member Quark, who has very patiently been waiting for the wheels and tires to be liberated from my hemtt so he can put them on his own project.
I have kept so many pots on the fire over the last year that I finally had to just say "pick a...
All this armchair speculation on workmanship by a member that has more then demonstrated his engineering and fabricating ability seems a bit much.
How could anyone doubt that the father of the "Baby-Hemtt" would build anything less then OD perfection?!?!?
Who would not want this truck in their...
It'll look even better in two weeks when I throw a few more gallons of green on it and then start with the black and brown! I still need to go at it with a conventional HVLP gun to get the tight spots where I can't hit it with the airless. I'll unwrap it in about two weeks and start putting...
I would seriously consider swapping to 14-20 super singles with 2-piece combat-style wheels. I think they will be far better offroad. Plus you can service them a lot easier.
Also get yourself a handful of extra winch shear-pins and throw them in the glovebox. Get a airline with a gladhand...
Here's a couple from today. It's still not dry yet, but a lot of the gloss is gone now.
I've ordered 4 more gallons of green, three of black, and one brown. I'll shoot the camo in about two weeks.
I just realized it's almost time to put my own hemtt on my avatar! I was waiting for it to be painted, but I'llhave to wait another week or two for the rest of the paint to get here and then I'll do the camo and strip all the masking off and take some really fancy pics.
I can't swing the diesel for a trip down, wish I could. But I will say this -
I know I've said it before, but any of you SS'ers that want to pay me a visit will get a free, all-expenses paid luxury ride in my hemtt. I may even let you work the crane!
Seriously, one of the great joys of...
It's a Graco 390. We used about 5 gallons of primer, and 5 gallons of 383 green. I still need to use another few gallons of green to finish up the bottom, but we ran out so I ordered more and will do it when I do the black and brown.
Gillespie paint - sprayed undiluted with a commercial air-less paint sprayer with a 515 tip. It worked great and the friend I had helping me is the shop manager of an industrial paint shop and that is how they paint all their trucks and equipment. They also paint all the masts for the wind...
more - It's still quite wet here, so that explains the shine. It's already darkened a lot now that I am cleaned up and back in posting these pics. More of the final product tomorrow.
This is the fuel filter that mounts on the spare tire carrier right next to the air dryer. I had this one that came with the truck, and bought another for parts to make one nice one. Not sure on the micro rating, but the filter is a Fleetguard FS-1206.
It has a heater, a water detector, and...
I'm not really sure what happened to the 5-ton guy. Last I heard he was using it frequently to tow his HMMWV to Pismo Beach in California to play in the sand dunes. He called me a few times and kept telling me how much he loved driving it around down there pulling the "cute little"...
Hey thanks!!!
As I've said before, it really helps to motivate me along to get such positive comments from folks that are as knowledgable and experienced as the members of SS.
There have been more then a few times where I've felt a bit overwhelmed by the magnitude of this project.
