If it was the one on Ebay for way too much money, that's mine!
I get asked this a lot. The best answer I can give you is just keep your eyes and ears open real wide and be patient. There are companies that might be able to help find one for you, but they are gonna want their cut...
Actually they are a very well-fabricated copy of the hinging style used on the newer A2 version a good friend fabricated for me. They are a little lower to the ground, also. Pretty nice work, huh?
I think all the early hemtts came with the steel cable style steps, but one of the problems...
I thought the MK48 was the same as an LVS? Just the front power unit. Since they are all but impossible to find I haven't really done much research about them.

RE: Locking Door handles
I had a locking door handle on my 5-ton. It was just a locking garage door handle. It looked exactly like a regular 5-ton door handle, but had a lock cylinder in it. Worked great. Check out Home Depot and see what you find.
I haven't seen any civilian fire trucks trucks made by Oshkosh that didn't look like they started out life first as a military truck. There was the one on Ebay the other day that definitely seemed to be based on a LVS, but I haven't seen any from the factory civilian hemtt's. Can someone post...
I've got it set up. I'm taking it back in for sandblasting on Monday the 25th, and will spend Tuesday masking it all off and getting ready to paint on Wednesday and Thursday.
I've got a buddy from the other side of the state who manages an industrial paint shop coming over to help me shoot it...
I had a little adventure the other day while driving the hemtt. I was trucking down the highway at about 60 mph when all of a sudden the driver's windshield collapsed in on me and folded over the steering wheel splintering little sliver's of glass all over the interior and me. Good thing I...
to each, his own.
I'm just saying I wouldn't do it... Why, when a nice o-ring is re-usable, is cheap, installs with less equipment/supplies/cleanup, doesn't require wire-wheels, doesn't leave you wondering if you used the right sealant...
Flame-on....
I can second the recommendation to get it from O-Rings, Inc. I'm fixin' to make another order from them myself.
M1075 - please send me the info on getting my hands on a couple of the 2-piece wheel valve stems. I need two of them.
Re- RTV.... I wouldn't try it. No telling when or where...
Getting real close now to the final prime/paint on the hemtt project.
How many gallons of primer and paint should I order? It's going to be sandblasted to bare metal.
I'm doing 3-color camo, but I'm really only worried about getting the base green on. I'll do the black and brown in a week or...
by the way...
If anyone sees a hemtt battery box lid somewhere, I sure could use it. The one I fabricated up before won't clear the new bed, so I am going to try to find a stock one before I make another.
Here's what they look like -
We put the bed on today. There was one mount that looks like it was bent up when they removed it from the last hemtt it was on. We lifted it back up and put a little heat to it and straightened it back out.
In a week or two we'll go back to the sandblaster and really clean the truck up...
Thanks for all the compliments, Guys! It really means a lot to me to hear that from such a well respected crowd of enthusiasts with so much more experience doing this sort of work then I do.
I've been involved with MV's for only about 3 years now, but I suffer from a rather extreme form of...
Compared to my Deuce or my 5-ton it's positively tranquil. There are a couple of factors involved in that. The exhaust is behind the engine, which is behind the cab., so most of what you hear is the engine noise (turbo and supercharger whine)You don't hear much of the exhaust unless the jake...
The hemtt took a big trip to the sandblaster today! I got it out on the freeway too, and took a couple videos that I put on Youtube (see link below for all my hemtt videos.)
http://www.youtube.com/user/dma251
I got it up to about 65-70 on the freeway too. Who says they only go 55mph...
RE: Crane
Leonard - Since you have been in one you can probably answer a question that I've always had about the MK48 power units - How do they steer when uncoupled from their rear unit? Obviously they can have both front steer axles turn in the same direction like any hemtt, but when driven...
