I really appreciate the advice but I have to tell you guys, every military truck I've seen has had paint on the hoses including most of mine. I used to work around marine engines and they also have all the hoses painted with the same thick paint. Even a lot of commercial truck engines seem to...
I am going to be sandblasting the crane and framerails on Monday! As soon as that is done I plan on driving it home and painting it with Gillespie Redox primer and 383 green.
My question is about flex additives. The crane obviously has a lot of hydraulic hoses on it, and some of them are...
It doesn't appear that the original flasher connects to ground from what I can tell. There are only two wires. power and load. Darn. You know the deal on electrical parts.... no refunds. $23..... I need to know more befoer I start throwing more money at it. At this rate I'll...
Okay guys, I still need help..... I got a new electronic 24v flasher from napa today, and it has three terminals - L, P, and X. According to my references the L is Load - the wire going into the turnsignal lever assembly, X is for 24v+ power, and P is for a "pilot light" feature. Not sure...
Yeah, it looked a lot like that except a bit longer, but I could just barely make out that it was in fact an electronic flasher.
So my next question is what does the "electronic" aspect provide? Will an electronic flasher not be affected by the lesser load of the leds?
I have chased my turn signal inop problem do to a faulty flasher, but the markings are all worn off it so I can't get a part number.
It is clear plastic cylindrical flasher with 3 blade connectors on the end. Before everyone pipes up that it's supposed to be a metal box like on the other...
I am getting ready to install the cargo box on my hemtt, but I need to buy some of the springs that go on top of the bed-mounts up at the front of the cargo box where it bolts to the frame. They are so the frame can flex, and 5-tons and Deuces have them too.
If anyone has a 5-ton and can...
Nice looking truck! It sure is fun to get these labors of love on the move, isn't it? I know I was grinning ear to ear when I started driving mine after all winter of work. I'm sure you're in the same spot.
Congrats!
The only place that requires any high-strength is the 6 bolts that hold the spare tire carrier. Those are new grade-8, everything else doesn't need anything that strong just to hold the fenders on.
I don't think a knuckleboom crane wouldl look right on the back. They don't fold up quite as nicely as the flat-topped telescoping boom on the Grove mhc-977. It seems that uncle sam liked the way the hemtt would fit into a C-130 cargo plane with the tightly-stowed Grove crane.
Just my .02...
A couple pics from today's developments. The front fenders are finished and ready to install tomorrow. It took a couple of test fits to get all the notches cut in the right places , and then I welded the seams on the corners, and sent them off to get a good sandblasting for better paint...
Okay, here's the latest.
I just got the front fenders on (although not permanently) to drill the mounting holes. Remember, the original fenders were all bent up. I used them to make new ones, except the new ones didn't have all the openings cut in the inside edge to clear the fender mounting...
Been busy lately getting some of the small stuff hooked up. I've been working on the crane, and playing with it too a bit. Check out some of my youtube videos playing around with the crane. http://www.youtube.com/dma251
I changed out the engine oil filter (canister style) mount for a...
Lot's of little details I've been working out lately. More info to come, but for right now just check out a couple of the videos I've posted on youtube.
Been working on the crane mainly the last few days. I had to get that fully functional so I could erect it for sandblasting and painting...
That's a hemtt A2 bolt-together wheel. I sure wish I had just ONE more....... I have 8 now, but I am still searching for a ninth for my spare.....
It's definitely a hemtt wheel, though. I'm tripping over 'em in my garage right now.
