It looks like a 1941 GMC K18 Radio Van. Also used for shop work, command and control ... I think that another one of these was posted on this site 6 months ago, I'll try to search. There is a fully restored one in Vancouver BC. It was motorpool restored and running last spring...
Old thread, but there's is enough demand to update it. I'm still snooping for winch mounting brackets in the Lost Wages Nevada area ( A buddy is on a gambling trip and is willing to save me shipping costs):p
Do you have the time to start a new thread about Russian Fire Aparatus?
I'm nosey, and would love to see both Military Fire Trucks, and the current Civilian units.
You seem to be the most able poster from that part of eternal winter ...
So if this amuses you, there are more than a few of us...
Super Duper Dave is right. Back then, plates just had to be visible.
Lights were still an option back then.
Just look at the mirrors our trucks had and the turn signals ....
People were expected to be smarter in that era,
and crashing into the back of an Army Truck was just not socially...
Re: plate. That one would have already been wiped from the system, so you can have it,
BUT you can't display it in a place where someone could think that it is the proper plate for the truck.
Ie; it can't be affixed to the truck, or even propped in the window.
Put it on a display board...
Check it out. These guys have converted several large fleets up here as test fleets, and I have yet to hear anything bad.
Cummins Westport • Natural Gas Engines
We bought a winch a year ago with the driveline and pillow blocks.
This past fall my mechanic called me and asked if I wanted a winch for the Army Truck.
He had a spare winch cluttering his shop, and it came with the PTO.
So now 2 winches will become 1. Still have to fab the winch mounting...
That is the stuff, Digger Dave!
I have most of that (Cables and linkage not so much),
but it will be Spring until what I have gets installed ....
Just before Parade season!
I am so going to owe you a pint on your next trip through town!
We could try to make a guess, from the pics as to where you are, but could you please edit your profile to include a guess as to which town and state? Before the Grumpy guy barks at you again!
Click on User CP and the rest is not hard to do.
Interesting gear, but don't loose your shirt...
So, don't tease us, WHAT HAPPENED?
If that one didn't pass inspection, I'm sure that you can find another one worth saving.
Come on, Enquiring minds want to know!
You started this thread .....
I guess that we now have a photographer on the ground in Turkey,
who can post pics of their old military vehicles.
This should be real neat! I would love to see what they used ...
and not just the ones that we were used to,
I'm sure that they had many locally made trucks.
With the work that you and the CAMO crew do,
I think that this beastie lives in the right place.
If these great old beasts keep getting more popular,
I will have a hard time finding donor trucks.
SHHHhhh.
Don't tell people about these trucks.
You know that I'm going to demand...
BTW, while playing with lug nuts on a 135/211 , remember that some were RIGHT and LEFT handed thread. Look on the end of the stud (L - R) to tell you which way to turn.
This ways not directed at the previous posters ( who know) ,
but at anyone else who reads this thread.
