I thought thats what low range was for? :-D Hey Tom what size shafts are in those airlocked axles? I have several sets of 5 tons with the same design airlocker but instead of the standard 2 1/8" 16 spline shafts mine has 2 1/4" 23 spline shafts in them. I was just curious if they upgraded the...
As far as I know rockwell made 2 ratios for the 2.5 axle the 6.72 that most people have and there was another military vehicle that used these axles that had a different ratio but are rare. Talking with Ed at Memphis Equipment awhile back he had mentioned what the vehicle was but didn't know...
Yes you endup with a torque difference but you have to remember that if you install a monster tire on there that is a lot more recipricating weight than the origanol 9.00x20. This in turn will sap more power to turn versus a faster gear ratio in the axle the gears weight diff is minimal. Plus...
I forget the name of the guy. But these gearsets were origanolly made for a customer who drove his deuce from L.A. out into the desert and used it as a motorhome. The guy bought 7 sets of gears and Russ did the install work for him. The guy has been running them for years without a problem...
It's a little pricey but my buddy Russ at Gearhart Engineering makes a lower numerically gear ratio for the 2.5 ton topload. It's a 5.41:1 ratio. Plus he makes many other cool stuff for the Rockwell axles also. You can checkout his stuff at Gearhart Engineering These are high quality...
Hey guys I have 27' lowboy I want to pull behind my deuce but the trailer is pulled behind a diff. truck too that is 12 volt whats the best way to wire or convert the output of my system to 12 volt so I can use the trailer with both trucks?
Thanks
There are a few non military ratios available for the 5 ton also. I have several sets of 5.81 ratio dropouts and also a set of 7.54 ratio dropouts and a set 0f 9.34 ratio drop outs there are quite a few others too but were only found on civilian use toploaders.
Me and my group of guys bought a few things. But most was from the scrap guys after the bought. I paid $6 a piece for 25 2.5ton driveshafts for between the tandems and several 5 ton axle shafts for 40 bucks each. My friend Mike Vaters (Black Stallion monster truck) bought 5 front 2.5tons for...
