Good testing procedure. Other than an unhappy mixture of fluids, the MC looks pretty good in side. Doesn't look like replacement time to me. If your system purge goes well, when clean, fill it up and go with it. But it never hurts to check the wheel cylinders for rust.
WG, that is one nice looking XM-715. Mine is a 67 stocker, owned about 12 or 13 years. Don't drive mine much and a week or so ago, went to start it and it just did not want to start. Put a little fuel in it and it is amazing what a difference that makes. Did you upgrade the ring and pinions...
Infidel, thank you for the counseling tip. It is going to a good home. The new owner was a gun truck driver in Vietnam and wants to turn it into a tribute truck for the one that he drove. Hope to see pics of that build one of these days.
Parted with the M54 on Friday. Time to thin the herd a bit. Drove it 51 miles to the drop off. Ran fine and will be missed, but I didn't have the room or the time to give it the attention it deserved. :(
You might try some JB weld in the pitted area, it is just a few bucks if it works. I would also go for checking the head for true. Finding a running flat head is getting to be scarce. You are probably looking at 2000 plus or minus to take that engine to the rebuild shop. They will tank it...
How do you know antifreeze is in the cylinder? Did you recheck head torque? Sorry it has been years since I did one of those, so don't remember the numbers. Did you have the head checked or milled? It didn't used to be that uncommon to have a little warping of the head. Make sure you have a...
Concur with the thoughts on running it and getting it up to temp for a bit to vaporize the condensation. If situation persists or you have another blown head gasket, take the head to the machine shop and have them mill the mating surface. Sometimes even if the head is good and all is right...
As long as the truck isn't in danger of vandalism, patience is the key to a low tow bill. What sort of soil conditions do you have? Are you in a clay type soil, or is it good rocky sandy type? You said the housings aren't on the ground, so that is good. It is more of an irritation than a big...
SuperS, thank you for the offer. Friend lives a bit away and he is having a guy help him on Monday to take a look at this issue. We will know more then. He told me that they did not replace any gaskets, so will see what he has to say. Now I have to look at mine too and see if that is an issue.
Is it stuck in the mud along the ditch line? Is it an A2? Did you air the tires down a bit? If you have that much snow, and a neighbor with a couple of trucks, looks like your best bet is to wait till conditions improve. Looks like it is safe and that others could get by if they have to. I...
Depends on what you want the trailer for, but I have seen a lot of LMTV's with 1101/1102 trailers hooked to them out here in the JBLM area. That gave me the idea of towing the 1102 behind the M923. Not sure about your trucks overhang, but when you jacknife the trailer on a 923 Cargo, it is...
any brand and number on the gaskets from the truck supply? We are trying to figure out why my friends 923A1 system isn't working. Got a new bottle, but don't think he replaced the gasket. I have a 923 and have to work on my dash switch, as it goes in, but does not want to come out. Tried the...
You do beautiful work with all the electrical stuff. I am glad there is someone out there that knows what to do with those pieces. You are saving a unique piece of the Military vehicle history.
Stacks aside, be thankful. In WA you would have gotten a ticket or maybe a first warning for not having mud flaps that extend down to the middle of the rear axle housing. part of the safety feature, so you don't kick up rocks to the person following.
Hope you all get to go. It is always fun, but be sure to get on room reservations if you need them. My best bet may be to head over later, when the festivities have died down. But it is great to see all the vehicles that are brought out for this event.
Tobi, my situation is in doubt. Where we thought we were staying, outside of Carentan, has been booked up, without us getting a room. There still seem to be some rooms available here and there so am working on that . We were looking at going to Brussels for a couple days, then head to...
Anyone planning on going for the 72nd? The 1SG thinks he wants to go this year so am starting to look at options. Our Belgian friends are tentatively planning on going from 3 - 6 June. If you are going, maybe we could meet up and chat somewhere over there.
This may be a slightly less hectic...
We ended up with 4 trucks. MB, M715, M923 and M923A1. The weather broke and was dry during the parade. It is still amazing to see the crowd that turns out for this event. Saw a couple of others from our group that came out as tourists. Plan on it for next year. Around the second Saturday...
