RE: Knock Knock again
#3 was 18 thousandths after removal. #4 was 10. The book says out-of -round must not exceed .003 at the top and not more than .002 at the bottom of piston travel.
Thanks John!!!!!
RE: Knock Knock again
You can see all the skirt area from below when the pan is off. The other 4 cylinders were like mirrors, no wear evident, thankfully. This is the area the distortion usually is found I was going to pull all but the Cummins rep. said to inspect from the bottom, it works. He...

My sincere thanks to Will Wagner for the help in figuring how to index the oil cooler when there were no index marks from the factory.
Several months ago my M816 developed a knock, a loud one. No drop in power, oil pressure or any of the standard indications. A light blue haze from the exhaust that wouldn't go away was all that was evident. Well, after narrowing down where the knock was, #3 piston, I disassembeled it. I'm...
Dave,
Your Goat sounds pretty normal in that it smokes lite when cold and clears up when warm. I think your right about dirty injectors. The 353 is a great little engine and the 2 stroke gives great and smooth torque output. But they are real sensitive to dirty fuel. Check the filters first, if...
You can see by the black track, on the head gasket by the loose bolt, where the compression was leaking past the fire ring and into the bolt cavity. Along with water, fuel and oil.
The dark area going across the fire ring, water passage left of the loose bolt is where the water was coming from...
Joe,
The one they sent me was not original. Its larger in diameter and sealed, with larger connections on each end.
Instead of jacking around trying to make the newer one fit, I used one from a M543. It's the same bot a little shorter.
Here are pictures of my deuce and gamagoat. The deuce was just touched up (green) but began turning pink within the first year. You can see where hail hit it and exposed the green. It's rattlecan Aervoe. The Goat was painted with Gilespie 24087 in 2000 before I drove it to Kansas City for the...
Crash,
You have the correct IP.
The rear throttle is a bear, it's just a steel spring 20 some feet long with a steel wire going thru it. Can you spell RUST. I tried to repair mine and ended up throwing it away. Got a new one from Saturn, but didn't use it it was somewhat different.
I've started...
From what I saw and after 160 hard miles up here and back, you can be proud of the old girl.
I couldn't be there but next time you're up here give me a shout. I just rebuilt my engine so I'm babying the H... out of it and doing a proper break-in. Soon I'll be streakin' down the road again. Did...
