Your jig gives me some ideas about how I might rig up something on my Kubota tractor to help me swap out the hydraulic crane hoist motor on my M936A1 wrecker. I think that motor is a bit heavier than I can man-handle by myself.
I don't think I'll get around to working on my wrecker's hoist motor until sometime this summer, but I couldn't wait to do an experiment to see if I can put a hook above the motor to stand in for "soldier B". I wasn't sure if my tractor's loader could lift high enough. It looks like it'll do the...
I was thinking of something as simple as a bar suspended by chains at each end, but I have a hunch that would just be a really efficient way to hammer my shins against the original step.
Getting up and down once in a while isn't all that bad for me, but it gets tiring really fast when I need to...
I'm in no hurry, and I could probably fabricate something myself. I'm just looking for inspiration. I've seen cable-type ones on the likes of telephone and/or power company trucks.
Have any of y'all tried hanging one of the 2.5-ton folding front bumper steps under the driver's side cab steps on an M939-series 5-ton? I think I might have one of the bumper step kits in a box somewhere.
Any idea how much the motor weighs? I only have two hands, so I might need to kludge up a field-expedient "soldier B".
My motor sounds like a metal bucket full of rocks when I run the hoist, and I don't think that's right.
My M936A1's hoist motor has leaked since I got it. But it has also always made a heck of a racket when I operate it, so I don't think it just needs new seals... I have a hunch that once I get inside, I'm going to find some ugly carnage, and end up replacing it. My motor has a drain plug on the...
Is that fill gun an MX-10579 or MX-18290? I have only seen MX-18290 units as surplus so far, and I'm wondering whether any MX-10579 units have been released to the surplus market.
I'm interested in seeing what you come up with. I'm not familiar with the HEMTT steps yet, but I'll hit Google up for inspiration. I've seen steps on local telephone service trucks that were suspended by a couple of stubs of really thick wire rope.
I started my M936A1 wrecker. I know it doesn't sound like much, but my MV hobby has been on the shelf for quite a while as I obsessed over other hobbies, and that poor wrecker must have been sitting for at least a couple of years. I've had a Noco 4-battery charger/maintainer on it the whole...
Very nice! My MV hobby has been back-burnered by some of my other hobbies for a few years, and I just heard about this meet. I'm not interested in camping out, but do y'all expect that there will be enough activity remaining on the final Saturday to justify visiting for a few hours? I'll be...
Thanks! I am also very curious about how you are thinking of adding hydraulic outriggers. After the rear winch, the outriggers are the second hardest thing to deal with for an out-of-shape engineer with a weak back and no soldier-Bs. Screwing the jackscrews up and down is only mildly...
Yeah, I haven't seen one, either. I'd sure prefer a detailed theory of operation and tables of things like torque specs, over five volumes of hand-holding procedures for things that aren't applicable to what I need to do!
Is there a detailed diagram of the M936 wrecker body hydraulic system available anywhere? I have not been able to find one so far in the TMs or the Point-to-Point schematic program.
I am interested in adding a smaller pilot winch on the back of my M936A1 to let me use the rear winch without...
