    M931 battery wiring

That looks right to me. I think that the only 12V load is the heater blower motor when on low speed.

    M543A2 wrecker joins the family

I never tried fixing that lid because my sheet metal skills are in the hit it with a sledge hammer category. :-P

    M543A2 wrecker joins the family

Hooray! I suspect that the master cylinder needs rebuilding, but then I have had enough trouble keeping the brakes working reliably on some of my trucks that my advice is pretty questionable. Oh here's one other thing I learned about this truck The crane needs to be rotated a bit to...

    I've got the bug

Welcome to our green iron disease support group! Sometimes I downsize my collection, but so far I've always upsized it again after a while!

    Replacing M936A1 Wrecker Hoist Cable

I just ordered the Esmet assembly kit since I didn't have a suitable chunk of aluminum sitting around to make the cable clamp thingy. Part number for the 1/2" kit is SP-307-L, and the cost was $50 + tax and shipping. I ordered it from American Rigging in San Diego, at 619-233-5625. They got the...

    My new front bumper

It looks good to me! I've always thought it would be fun to use wood railroad ties as front and rear bumpers. Maybe even on that M1008 that is gathering dust out in my yard...

    M543A2 wrecker joins the family

Yup! The trailer dragged on the way in, too.

    M543A2 wrecker joins the family

Here are some more pictures of the loadout. They're also on my web page at higher resolution: M543A2 Wrecker Leaves for its New Home » Mark's Green Pages Notice the trailer frame scraping the ground as the driver goes through my gate. Many drivers wouldn't have wanted to bring their truck onto...

    M543A2 wrecker joins the family

I'll be dumping the classified ad here in a day or so after giving any interested folks a chance to see the "sold" posting, but the link I posted above is on my personal web page. The pics are much higher resolution, and it'll stay there indefinitely. I tried changing the classified ad title to...

    M543A2 wrecker joins the family

I'm preserving the for-sale listing in case anybody would like to see some more "before" pictures: 1965 Kaiser-Jeep M543A2 5-Ton 6×6 Medium Wrecker SOLD » Mark's Green Pages I'll probably also make a new post on my web page soon with some more loadout pictures. I'm going to miss this truck...

    Replacing M936A1 Wrecker Hoist Cable

Today I refilled the hoist winch gearboxes and installed the new cable. I haven't put on the clevis end fitting yet, though, because I need to buy or make an assembly tool to clamp the cable in a vise. And of course, that got me thinking about getting a proper vise for the front bumper, but I...

    Replacing M936A1 Wrecker Hoist Cable

Today I replaced the oil seal in the center of the hoist crane gear box side cover, opened up the brake housing to clean it out and readjust the brake band, and re-seal both covers with RTV in place of the old paper/cork gaskets. Here are some pictures if the innards.

    Replacing M936A1 Wrecker Hoist Cable

    Perfect! Thank you very much!

State of CA and 5 ton regs

A stock M35A2 needs a class B licence in CA. I think that a bobbed M35A2 with 2 axles can be driven non-commercially on a regular class C, though. It's still considered a commercial truck, just like any pickup truck is in CA, but having only 2 axles and a GVWR under 26,000 pounds keeps it out of...

    Replacing M936A1 Wrecker Hoist Cable

I haven't made more progress on my cable replacement because some stuff came up that kept me from working on the truck last weekend. I hope to get wrenching on it again in a week or three. My old M543A2 should be leaving for its new home this weekend, though, and I hope that its new owner will...

What to do with a MK48 cab?

I managed to avoid bidding on one of the cabs in the last GL batch, but I'm still interested in seeing what sort of creative uses folks come up with for them.

    931 camper. The Arrrggh-V

One of the ideas that I've contemplated for my M923 is to get a travel tralier just small enough for its body to fit in the M923's bed, then cut off the hitch and wheels and use it like a large slide-in. If there are larger slide-ins which would fill a 14' cargo bed well, then I'd be curious to...

    5 Ton M923A1 Wiring Question

To the best of my knowledge, the heater blower is the only 12V load that I could find on the wiring diagram in the TM, and the 12V supply is only used for low heater blower speed. The two pairs of batteries are connected together at the ground and 24V ends, but the 12V tap is only connected to...

    Wrecker Oil Can Bracket

It looks like the manufacturer of your oil can is still around: Dutton-Lainson Company - Since 1886 I haven't found a supplier of the bracket yet, though. I'd like to find one for my M936A1, whose original bracket has rusted away. Edited to add: I've emailed them to ask if they know a source...

Rebuilding Hydraulic Motor on my M936A1

Good question. I haven't been inside the box at the right rear corner of the bed yet; that's where the rear winch motor is located, isn't it?
